The first thing I would do is send every single registered Democrat a letter in the mail that invited them to pay more taxes voluntarily and then review the results and go from there...

Cut entitlements to reasonable levels, reduce prison funding, cut congressional staffing budgets, reduce defense payouts to other countries. Privatize and outsource USPS
Those are the broad strokes of what needs to be done.

I would remove the automatic budget increases that are automatically added between 5-6% per year

Medicaid, pork barrel projects, administrative expenses, do something with SS. Hell I don't care, defund the department of education, homeland security, etc.

End baseline budgeting forever. Dissolve the departments of education, commerce, energy and the irs. Cut the epa budget in half. Cut 5% from every remaining department's budget. Enact massive welfare and entitlement reform. Bring as many service men and women home as possible, and close unnecessary military bases. Sell the postal service.
That would be a good starting point for me.

2/3 cut to entitlements
50% cut to military spending

Discretionary spending
Is a small part of the budget. Of which I'm well aware.
And also why if you insist on only focusing on discretionary spending you'll never address the actual spending problem we have in this country.

Defense - no cuts
DHS - 5% cut
All other departments - 10% cut
Real fricking cuts. Not just reductions in spending.

Disagree. And I say that as a member of the military.
Our acquisition process is broken. Badly.

Cut 1% of Federal Spending across the board. Oh, wait! That would save over $250 Billion.
Posted on 11/17/17 at 8:31 pm to HailHailtoMichigan!
I would close the Department of Education: 68 Billion a year saved
I would stop the annual growth of the Department of HHS
Holding it steady would save another 24 billion a year.

Close every single military base we have ou8tside the USA, shrink our armed forces by 50% immediatly, end EEC, stop all foreign aid.
That would do it and then some with negligible effect on out economy.

Drastically reduce the scope of our military presence and military spending.
