Yes
Islam is particularly prone to this, because it's a young religion, it's a warriors religion, and because its central principle is unity, the fusion of the people, government, and religion, all in one.
But I think pluralism in general is impossible, outside of a Roman style pantheon of gods.
The problem is that religions are the basis of our culture, and our laws, and so they can't coexist. They function like competing supra organisms.
