I don’t feel at all sorry for Germany or the rest of Europe.
They did this to themselves and deserve the consequences of their choices….just like we do.

I'm almost at the point of straight buying that the "green agenda" was pure Russian propaganda this entire time in order to hook western Europe on someone else's "dirty energy"
It's almost too convenient of circumstances to ignore the possibility
Also fits way too well that one side dove head first into Russian propaganda while claiming the other side is the one hoodwinked, thanks to the Rules of Projection

He could cripple Europe with the turn of a few valves.
Then he should do it. Europe will have to figure out how to make it without Russian oil and gas. Otherwise they are at a risk of perpetual blackmail. The German "collapse" will actually be just a pause until they figure it out, and then they will be free.
Putin's error is believing that he will be ok without the European market. A seller who refuses to sell hurts himself also. Without Europe buying oil and gas, Russia will be selling for nickels at higher transaction costs.
This will hurt Europe but will be good for them in the long run.+

A pause?
Yes it would be better long term but this isn’t a quick or easy fix

Is this what we basically did when we sanctioned Russia?

This is true but Germany was just going out in the market and negotiating a deal for natural gas. How could they have know Russia would put their heads in vises? Well I guess Donald J Trump knew. And now Germany is five years away from having enough coal fired or nuclear power plants to replace the energy stream. And it's possible they may never be able to replace Russian gas.

Putin has already won. He could cripple Europe with the turn of a few valves.

You would think there was a precedent to draw upon from recent memory…
WWI
“There were 20 million deaths and 21 million wounded. The total number of deaths includes 9.7 million military personnel and about 10 million civilians.”
WWII
“The total for Europe alone was 15 million to 20 million—more than twice as many as in World War I.”

So they'll cave in to Russia and pay in whatever currency they want, threatening the petrodollar.
