Georgetown Law Professor Fired For Comments About Black Students In Viral Video

I gotta say, I don't see what the professor did wrong. She acknowledges that every semester some of her lowest performing students academically are black and she's upset about it.
The university labeled her comments as "reprehensible."

“You know what? I hate to say this, I end up having this angst every semester that a lot of my lower ones are Blacks,” Sellers says. “Happens almost every semester and it’s like ‘oh come on.'”
Sellers then briefly laughs before saying: “I get some really good ones but there are also usually some that are just plain at the bottom, it drives me crazy…I feel bad.”
Batson doesn’t speak much in the video, but can be seen nodding his head a few times.

On Thursday afternoon, Georgetown Law Dean Bill Treanor stated that Sellers would be fired and that Batson has been put on leave awaiting the findings of an investigation being conducted by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Affirmative Action.
“As I wrote to you last night, I am appalled that two members of our faculty engaged in a conversation that included reprehensible statements concerning the evaluation of Black students,” Treanor said in a statement to Fox News. “I have further reviewed the incident and have now spoken to Professor Sellers and Professor Batson, giving each the opportunity to provide any additional context.”
“Until the completion of the investigation, Professor Batson will have no further involvement with the course in which the incident arose,” Treanor added. “We are taking significant steps to ensure that all students in this class are fairly graded without the input of Professor Sellers or Professor Batson.”

Affirmative action policies are unfair to all sides. If that many black students are unprepared for Georgetown Law, then they should not have been admitted.
In the long run, that screws them over just like the people whose spots they took.

The only relevant question for the academic community is "Is she right"?
It's an important question, because if you can't identify the issue, you can't address it. You ignore it or create stop gaps or overcompensate for the unnamed albatross hanging around your neck.
It's also pretty easy to determine in this situation. Let's see what they do next.

This isn't to say that Black students aren't qualified to study law at Georgetown by any stretch. However, if they're there because of unfair admission standards...

Facts, be like, racist.
Nothing will change until we can address some hard truths.

One of the mantras of all of these far left whackjobs is that they "want to have a conversation".
That is probably the biggest lie they tell themselves. They have no desire to have a "conversation". When they say they "want to have a conversation," what they mean is that they want to LECTURE everyone else, where the other side can NEVER be represented and plain unadulterated FACTS can never be uttered. Because, if they did have a conversation then it would completely f*cking destroy their far left deranged and demented ideology. But, if they keep telling themselves that they're having a conversation instead of LECTURING, THREATENING, AND EXTORTING the opposition into silence, then they can convince themselves that no one could possibly disagree -- because no one who isn't cancelled (or in one of Katie Couric's reeducation camps) disagrees.

Truth since the very first utterance of "conversation" by any DEM - same as with "unity" which means nothing more than "By Any Means Necessary Unconditional Surrender."

Time to split the country and we’ll see who fares better

Imagine the scenario where a student who was let into the program because the color of their skin has trouble doing the work.

We will have arrived as a society when we stop categorizing people by race. The left does this by design in order to divide and conquer. My hope is that one day people will reach a level of understanding that will allow them to throw off the shackles of liberal progressive brainwashing.

I have always translated “I want to have a conversation” as “I want to hear my words coming out of your mouth.” But, I like your translation too.

Truth hurts.
Sadly, these days it's 100% more likely to hurt the truth teller.

There is a complex dynamic and something that is always in the back of my mind. I always worked 100% to make sure people realized I wasn’t where I was because I was black. Furthermore, when I see a black colleague struggling, I, maybe unreasonably so, take it as a reflection upon me. And it angers me. Even though I have been around plenty of whites people who have struggles just as much. At the end of the day, there is no excuse for not excelling if given every opportunity to do so.

This is the true cruelty of affirmative action: robbing accomplished blacks of the pride of their accomplishments.
