The content is focusing on a small sample size and extrapolating to a large population. Statistical errors.

We get it, they wear higher necklines and don't go with friends.

Mark my words, Generation Z will be more conservative than millenials. In all actuality, they will probably turn out to be very libertarian which is what the trends are showing right now. They will be light on the social issues like gay marriage and abortion, but will believe in a fiscally conservative, non-intrusive government. As it stands currently, they don't necesarilly side with Trump, but they dont think much of Obama either. They see both parties as incredibly flawed. We may see the rise of a third party some time in the not-so-distant future.

How do I know all of this? Truth is, I dont. But I was born in '95 so by some standards I could be considered a member of Generation Z (Most believe the generation starts in the mid-90s). I'm speaking for myself and for all the my friends and the people around me. We're all sort of disillusioned with politics right now, and most of us consider ourselves to be independent

I agree with you and those have been my observations also. I'm more familiar with the group born around 2000-2002, but I find that your observations apply to them as well. There is a keen awareness of political issues and a deep concern about what the future will look like for them.

Gee, that mighty pious of you.

And that is your irrelevant 'contribution' to the discussion.

But this group will likely more closely resemble the late millenials than the late, even mod Gen Zers.

It's not like differences between birth year cohorts is any more dramatic when an arbitrary "generational" boundary is put on place. So we won't really know how much more conservative or liberal the Gen Zers are until a good portion of then have reached adulthood, probably another 5 to 10 years for now.

It is exactly this group (15-17 years olds) who are going to the prom this year and who are the subject of the linked article. We may not KNOW but we are certainly getting clues.

I have no generational identity. I am too young for Generation X and too old for the Millennials. Being born in the late 70's sucks, baws.

Nah, nothing wrong with it. There's nothing precise about the generational delineations anyway.

But those 17 year olds are essentially indistinguishable from the 18 year olds who happen to be (although there isn't a strict cutoff) millenials. There could be a change in the trends or not. Not much we can conclude from that.

Especially when you focus on such a small sample size

Thus the 'subtle sign of hope' in my subject line. Nothing precise about it, but perhaps some clues and something to keep an eye on.

But I bet you don't have a problem with the 'sample size' when those so-called polls about the President come out.

Good point. I guess I overlooked that because I think others tend to really overestimate the differences between generations without considering the differences within. I'm technically a millenial (31), but I don't share a lot in common with the 18 year old millenials.
