PARIS — The economy of the euro zone continues to expand, with a surprisingly strong improvement in France and signs of recovery in the region’s depressed labor market, according to a private sector survey released on Monday. The euro zone is enjoying “its strongest spell of growth since the first half of 2011,” said Markit Economics, the data analysis company that conducts the monthly survey.

My boss encourages me to take time during the week to volunteer at my kid's schools and to get things taken care of, like auto repair, for example. There are times when I need to work until 2 or 3 in the morning, or travel for work on a weekend, so we're encouraged to balance out personal lives and work the best we can so we can be productive when we're most needed.

The law as written in France does a disservice to the employee. While the employee might be able to legally be dismissive of the company's needs, it also gives the employees who recognize that the world works in many shades of gray not black and white, an advantage come promotion time. That's reality.

Wait, what????

my family is always more important then my job.

For 20 years I put them to the side for my gig.

That was a mistake.

Now I put my gig to the side for my family. If my boss can't handle something with out me, well he's not very good at his gig. 9 times out of 10 these so-called emergencies are bull shite that someone waited until the last minute to deal with. If my boss can't be organized enough with his priorities to get the gig done within working hours. That's not my problem.

If you are organized then there is almost never a good reason to bother your employees during their off time. If you're not, you shouldn't be the boss.

Definitely not true in ours either. We have several companies that service everything from people moving, commercial fishermen to repairing mine equipment. If something goes down on a fishing boat during a 48 hour opening, there's no waiting.

if this becomes a problem, then go above your boss or find a new job/boss. it's not that difficult

As is mine. However, I take pride in my work and if it means taking a 5 minute call on a Saturday, my family is perfectly fine with it and it doesn't interrupt anything i do. No one calls if it can wait til Monday.

Don't get me wrong, my gig has strange hours, nights and weekends, but if my people are off...they are off...period. If I need something from them, then it can wait.

Rescue personnel, etc.

I guess if you work in retail there would be few emergencies.

The presumptive arrogance of the OP is astounding. I'm perfectly free and able to choose a profession and position that meets my wants and desires for fulfillment, leisure, and recompense, but anyone who might be doing more or different, is obviously being "forced by the man."

I find this ironic how things come around full circle, there once were laws and some still exist that tried to strike a "work-life" balance. They were called Blue Laws.

I'm sure if the state were enacting these same laws so the OP would have the opportunity to attend to his religious duties he would be having a melt down.

Meh, France's economy is shitty and their per capita production is even shittier.

Liberals love pointing out the things in Europe which they agree with while choosing to ignore all the problems there which are either absent or minimal here. They love European "tolerance" while ignoring that many countries are 50 years away from being ruled at the highest level by Islamic law. They love their healthcare system while ignoring all the wealthy Europeans who come here for care and how nearly every tangible measure of morbidity and mortality across all disease states is higher there. They love their system of government oversight while ignoring that few business owners have any market freedom.

Rob, apparently one can acquire a nice hacienda in Spain for absurdly low prices. The Spanish clime is perfect for growing all sorts of things. Can you pony up 30-45k for us to have a palatial estate from which we will acquire mamacitas?
