They use both, and it's actually messed up at least one satellite orbit.

Math today is a fricking bitch. Old school math sent men to the moon. No wonder we can't get back to it.

Common Core Math

Metric system is better but we will never convert to it.
It would cause too many problems for Billy Bob to measure your deck size and decide what size Natty Light he is actually getting after he is done.

They went metric in 1990, about the time they started focusing on Global Warming(tm) and stopped focusing on "manned space flight."

Long story short: Neil and Buzz were using Imperial units of measure when we landed on the Moon.

And, Pete and Al, Al and Ed, etc.

Your electric company uses the metric system when they bill you in terms of W-h. But your A/C contractor uses the imperial system when they sell you an A/C in term so BTUs or tonns.

I mean, who cares? It's not that big of deal to go back and forth and use the system that is convenient for your particular situation.

We should have 10 hour days too. It would make it easier for people to read clocks.

A HUGE driver of the imperial system is O&G industry, construction industry, machine shops, automotive industry, etc., etc.

The imperial system is completely and well set up for most industry. Why change when it works? As I said previously, use the system that is convenient to you.

Plus, 750 ml bottle of whiskey is perfectly a fifth of a gallon.

Metric makes sense in a scientific context, but imperial is much better, more useful for the sizes of stuff you interact with (that's not surprising because most of the measurements are grounded in human proportions). The centimeter is too short, the kilogram is too heavy, the kilometer is too short etc etc

I work in an international company and it pisses me off when I see anyone, American or other, list a date as 06/05/19 or something like that. I'm thinking "goddamn it, now I have to think if you're American, or live in America and are European but think you're being clear or something?"

Just write 05JUN19. It takes away all confusion.

Good lord the Proggy Smugness in that stupid article is off the charts.

Yet another example of "Europe is better, we should be like Europe, but those stupid redneck Cons..."

For a group of people who applaud every late night "comedian" political show, you sure do struggle with satire.

That is some weird math. When I add 26 and 17, my brain does it like this:

20 + 6 + 10 + 7

20 + 10 + 6 + 7

30 + 13

43

* I was not schooled in common core

I worked at a place in the '90s (government facility) that had a faded and rusty sign at the entrance from the 70's that said..."Learn The Metric System, It's Coming Soon". I think the sign was still up when they razed the building in 2002.

We're right about the month, day, year thing. Metric we are most definitely wrong.

Impossible!
You need number sticks to do that!

Jeb Bush told me.

Common core seems to make the easy difficult.

That's silly.

This is an insightful observation.

That's fricked up.

I see 30+13. You really need to simplify the equation.

You are both wrong.

26+10 = 36

36+7 = 43
