I am still undecided as to which one of these men I should vote for. Fortunato obviously has a long history with JPSO, but Lopinto appears the hand chosen man for the job by his predecessor. Any info or thoughts on these two?

Fortunato. Time for a shake up.

I do not live in Jefferson, so no real dog in the fight.

Lopinto did accept bribes from the Sheriff's Lobby in 2015 if that makes any difference.

I don't have a dog in this fight, nor do I know anything about the candidates, but unless JPSO is the most stellar law enforcement agency in the nation, this raises a red flag for me.

I always thought Normand was a little full of himself and generally a bully. Honestly of the 2 candidates, they one that is more of the NN mold seems to be Fortunato.

I have some mutual friends with Lopinto and they all speak really highly of him as a person. Rank and file at Jpso are backing Lopinto. He has my vote.

Fortunato is tied the the Yenni machine
Lopinto is tied to the Normand machine

FWIW

Lopinto is the hand "Chosen " candidate

Beware of candidates which all the good old boy politicians endorse as many favors will be demanded of "Chosen" candidate....

Also Lopinto made a mistake on his campaign financial report of $37,000 he made as a legislator... see Advocate article ....

Oh and one more thing as Columbo used to do.... Lopinto as a legislator was the "Chosen Man" by political powers to introduce the State Bill which REMOVED the JP citizens right to vote on all sales and or leases on the two JP East and West Bank Hospitals!..

Thereby allowing only the highly political JP Council to negotiate the sales and leases of both hospitals which resulted in a complete disaster, as East Jeff Hospital was never sold/leased out and is still losing money big time

Neither one of these guys is anything close to being an "outsider." Just seems to be a race about whose inside you fall on.

This. Fortunato is basically from the “other” ruling class of JP.

I have a number of friends at JPSO who speak very highly of Lopinto and do not care for Fortunato at all. If they were voting for my boss I would hope they would take my feelings into consideration so I will do the same for them. From what I can understand, Fortunato plays politics but doesn't understand the inner workings of the department.

Newell Normand is corrupt piece of shite. Lopinto will get the Shane Guidry $100k handshake to sell crap to one of his companies.

Time for a change. Fortunato would be that choice.

The thousand injuries of Fortunato I'd borne as best I could, but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge..

I hear Fortunato is a drunk, with a particular taste for Amontillado.

Started out knowing nothing about either really. Learned Scalise was endorsing Lopinto, and leaned that way.

Learned Fortunato, was former cop that worked his way up to Colonel under Harry Lee. Was shot on duty. Negatives, his volunteers wearing his political T-shirts gave out free food at a Kenner school. Possible Yenni, Kenner connection?

Lopinto, was also cop. Put himself through law school. As a lawyer he ran for the Louisiana legislature as a R. Won. Endorsed by Scalise.
Negatives-He crossed party lines to support the Democrat Walt Leger, III, of New Orleans for Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives, the choice of incoming Governor John Bel Edwards. He had JPs obtain political pictures of his opponent at a coffee house on Sheriff’s time and used Sheriff’s equipment. He is running TV commercials falsely claiming that his opponent will support Yenni’s re-election. (While this maybe true?? He didn’t say that. Commercial is a cut and paste splice job.) Just learned of the Destin trip in this post, not good but not bribery.

So now I’m leaning Fortunato.

But I think the Jefferson Parish Sheriff Office will be fine headed by either. But then again, I told all my friends that I preferred Bobby but Babbling Blankstare couldn’t hurt the state after Foster had it running smoothly.

Any other information on each would be very useful!

You mean the same Shane Guidry who got the riverboat gaming license from EWE and EWE in the end went to jail for selling licenses to river boats and hospitals?...

Alaways nice to shake the hands of such people with lots of political "Experiences"

Fortunato as long as he lures back and keeps Steven Segal as a deputy.

Thanks. Sounds like both follow in a circle of Louisiana politics. To the degree varies in the eyes of the beholder.

And for what it’s worth, just called a buddy in JPSO and he said Fortunato.

Guess I will read up on the stuff someone stated came out today about failure to disclose income.

Fortunato.
Lopinto is the hand picked successor of Normand.
Would Lopinto even be a candidate if wasn't given the interim position?
