There isn't enough available vote share for any of these parties to become viable enough to gain any representation. Maybe in an isolated House race or two, but certainly not in the Senate, and definitely not in the Electoral College.

The first-past-the-post system creates two dominant parties, it happens the same way in the Westminster system.

ETA: But i agree with you in theory. I think it is more realistic in the long term that a new party or two rise up and replace one or both of the parties that we currently have. Most likely arising from a split in one of the major two parties. Thats the way it happens in our voting system. Look historically at our Presidential elections. The major third parties that have come up either peter out after one or two elections, get re-absorbed into an existing major party, or replace the major party all together.

You're right. Just a wish. Libertarians should try to win house seats and build up from there. A independent president candidate at this stage is a waste of time as was perot, Nader etc.
