Where are all these layoffs happening? This is what we are seeing as well.

In the exact same boat. People will apply, phone screen and then no show the interview.

Same here. In certain circumstances very few people really want to work any more. Other people will work to take care of them.

My company sent out voluntary layoff applications to all non-union employees yesterday. Based on my tenure it is tempting to say the least.

Explain that to me like I was homeless. Voluntary layoffs??

"We're about to have to layoff employees. Voluntarily quit and you'll get a better severance package."

It helps get rid of people that were already job hunting.

Thanks. Never worked anywhere that gave severance packages so didn't know how it worked.

why are companies laying people off? this is supposedly the best economy ever.

The interest rate hikes are intended to put companies in distress and force layoffs. This is happening because the Biden Administration, and the Feds, are trying to make it happen in order to get inflation under control.

You can't blame them for talking out both sides of their mouths; they are politicians, after all. The plan is to spend 2023 squeezing inflation out of the economy, then stimulate - probably with handouts to democrat voters, as in the trillion dollar college loan forgiveness.

This is anecdotal, but I've seen the most in financial services and with companies that are closely tied to the market.
