Those aren't atheists. They are fervent antitheists.

Actually, it was founded on the idea that government has no place in religion.

As an authority, let us look to Jefferson.

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State."

Having a prayer is not equal to establishing the Church of England and requiring everyone to join. It's just a prayer, that individuals can participate in or not.

Separation of church and state is a wall that prevents both. My statement happens to be more relevant to the OP.

He doesn't portray being overly Christian but he definitely believes in God.

I mean it's not like Christians don't expect that to happen for anyone who has read revelations.

It's easy to say there should be separation of church and state but the people making decisions in our government aren't robots. They're going to have beliefs just like everyone else. Even if you try to remain 100% objective there will always be a part of you that thinks a certain way on issues.

So 247 million out of 321 million identify as Christian. That 2/3 of our population. Seems to be a Christian nation if you believe in statistics. And with the last 8 years behind us a new day has dawned for those that adhere to Christian principles. Expect more knocks on your doors folks

Too bad only like a million act like Christians.

Yes. By all means, come out of the shadows and rail against gays and weed and abortion and all of the other issues that you lose on - so you can lose again.

Make no mistake. Trump won because Bernie supporters stayed home. He won with fewer votes than Romney lost with. All the left has to do is turn out in the future and they win again. They are far from finished.

So, do us all a favor and put your "mandate" driven zealotry back in your pants. I don't need any more statist lefties ruling over me.

Huge difference between a country being founded on Christian principles and being founded upon the Christian religion.

This country wasn't created to represent any single religion from an organizational perspective because the founders didn't want a single religion to be forced upon the citizens, violating their consciences. That has been turned into "the government can't say or do anything that is or might seem religious", which is not what the founders intended.

The first amendment puts no restrictions on a religion or religions..it does protect them from the govt.
