Annual influenza vaccines are no longer mandatory, said Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in a video posted today on social media.
"The notion that a flu vaccine must be mandatory for every service member, everywhere, in every circumstance, at all times, is just overly broad and not rational," the secretary said. "Our new policy is simple: If you, an American warrior entrusted to defend this nation, believe that the flu vaccine is in your best interest, then you are free to take it; you should. But we will not force you."
The secretary signed a memorandum that provides updated guidance that states, effective immediately, the annual influenza vaccine is voluntary for all active and reserve component service members and War Department civilian personnel.
The new mandate follows similar department efforts regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.
Between Aug. 24, 2021, and Jan. 10, 2023, the department required service members to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Over 8,000 service members were involuntarily discharged from the military for refusing the vaccine. Hegseth said that won't happen again.
"Our men and women in uniform were forced to choose between their conscience and their country, even when those decisions posed no threat to our military readiness," Hegseth said. "That era of betrayal is over. Under President [Donald J.] Trump, the War Department continues to take decisive action to once again restore freedom and strength to our joint force. We're seizing this moment to discard any absurd overreaching mandates that only weaken our warfighting capabilities."
Influenza vaccines, he said, are examples of overreaching mandates. The secretary said the decision to make it optional is common sense for the War Department and the service members.
"It's the kind of common-sense approach we are undertaking in this department," he said. "Rest assured that under President Trump, the War Department will always honor our brave warriors and do everything we can to restore the American people's trust in their military for generations to come."

Great news. These vaccines are poison.

I had the flu last week. Shittiest week I had in a while. Body ached all over
I still will not get the shot and have never gotten a flu shot. I have only had the flu like 3 times in my entire life and I am in my mid 40s
The shot doesn't even protect you from all of the variants so it's pretty pointless

The older you get the more important is to get yourself inoculated even if there is only a 50% chance you’re covered. Old people die of pneumonia that begins as the flu all the time

You could have gotten the shot and not had to deal with those extreme symptoms though.

Someone once caught the flu from me and almost died. This is the biggest reason I get the flu shot every year.

The current vaccine is only like 40% effective. It takes two weeks to take effect and you can still get the flu in those two weeks. Also, you get flu like symptoms for the first few days after the shot.

False on the flu like symptoms bub. The old people, 40% is better than none.

Never forget after 9-11 when they went crazy and gave everybody in the military anthrax vaccines. God only knows what was in that shite.
Also small-pox vaccines where you had motherfrickers walking around at work for weeks with a festering sore on their arm.
Looking back on those stupid 'anthrax letters' after 9-11 ... they got us. We were gullible as frick . 20-years later at Covid we even more gullible as frick.
What a time to be alive.

The last time I was compelled to take the flu shot was 1998.
The last time I caught the flu was 1998.

Wait, are you seriously anti the small-pox vaccine?

When I left the military was the last time I had the flu.
Another point, those getting it shed for a day or two and give it to others who may not have taken it. Thats what the military doc told me while giving me my mandatory shot and I was asking him about that.

When I was in the active reserves, I was able to skip the flu vaccine my last 7 years in.
There were two lines. First one was to receive the form to fill out, get signed by the Hospital Corpsman and drop it off in the box. Second line was for the actual shot. Second line was a long line. After about 5-10 minutes, I would just tell the person I'll be back because I had to go to the head (restroom) and never come back. Never got caught and my vaccine record always reflected that I had received it.

Some hajis fly planes into buildings (allegedly) and now all of a sudden small pox is an issue.
The events following 9-11 was hysteria on the level of Covid and a huge money grab.
Anyone who was in the military or government, or a contractor knows that after 9-11 no expense was too big and no threat was too small. You could sell ice to an eskimo so long as it was linked to terrorism.

What's really weird is that I work for a large hospital system and they didn't mention the flu vaccine even once this past winter. Just guessing they have lawsuits from COVID vaccines.
