Well part of their job is to evolve with the times and utilize technology that enables them to do their job even more effectively. Are there bad apples who exploit their jobs/positions, as well as the “tools of the trade” available to them for nefarious and corrupt purposes? Of course. That’s the case in far more careers than just law enforcement. And of course that’s in no way to justify or defend any such thing.

I doubt flock cameras would stop a drug pipeline cause they would find out where the cameras are and pick a different route. Florida might be keeping the mules on the main roads.

One of the benefits is catching people in lies about where they have been.
For instance, an Arkansas state trooper stopped a vehicle. They are trained in interdiction. His questions led to disjointed answers and his bullshite meter went off.
He got LPR info on the plate and it did not match the story told by the subject. He used that to do an open air sniff with his K9 partner after the subject declined a request to search the vehicle.
It ended up being a drug runner with a bag full of meth.
That’s just one example of how they aid in law enforcement.
Did he have enough PC to do the sniff without the LPR? Probably. But the LPR info left no doubt.

Prove it. Criminals in Houston have just been stealing plates from people with like make/models and using them before they commit crimes. Million dollar theft rings for smart taillights out of Fords, GMC/Chevys that get jacked out of driveways covered by cameras in the entire neighborhood, no suspects. But some old black lady in Richmond, TX, woke up to missing at least one plate on her Buick.
