Gov. Ron DeSantis' FDOT is hereby TAKING DOWN Flock cameras statewide over privacy concerns in state rights-of-way
All existing permits for automated license plate readers, even installed by local law enforcement, in state highway rights-of-way — are REVOKED
FDOT is also “ceasing the issuance of all future requests for LPR systems within its jurisdictional authority"
DESANTIS A FEW DAYS AGO: "What the HELL is going on with this?!”
“I don't want to have this become a surveillance state.”
“I see a police officer using this to track his ex-girlfriend?”
“I'm all about having law enforcement have tools to be able to hold criminals accountable.”
“I think that's important that we do that. And no one's been stronger on law enforcement than me.”
“I think this has happened very quickly. I think people are right to be concerned.”
“I wanted an AI bill of rights that could have addressed this and others, other issues.“
“It needs to be overhauled for SURE.”
“These cameras, the license plate readers, I think it's out of control.”

Desantis values freedom more than boomers’ Amazon packages. Sad!

Ok Gov. Jeff Landry. Louisiana is now on the clock.

I would assume that the LPRs will remain in place and active on the Fla Turnpike and other toll roads…which I have no problem with.

That’s my governor.

On the flip side, the law enforcement community will not look upon that very favorably, and some, if not many, may well begin to view him as not the ally that they thought he was.
Trump would get scorched by “principled conservatives” over this, the same ones who will likely praise RD for the exact same.

Florida Dept of Transportation .... what about the cameras located on private property?

So do body cameras become an option now?

Once again, DeSantis shows he is the best governor in America.

Which law enforcement agency has criticized this move by the best governor in America.

I’m not following you, I guess. Are you insinuating that unless there’s documented evidence of criticism no loss of support can exist? And does that apply to all members of the law enforcement community individually?

I don't have a strong opinion about license plate readers one way or the other, but they've have helped solve a shite ton of crime in the last few years. Great for catching drive-by shooters and carjackers. They've also helped find a lot of grandpas with dementia.
I gaurantee you the law enforcement community in Florida is pissed, for whatever it's worth.

So do body cameras become an option now?

No. I asked a concise question.
Maybe you don’t know the answer and that’s fine.

You asked a “concise question” of me to specify the criticisms I was referring to. Problem is, I didn’t mention the word criticism. Ask better questions, get better answers. It’s elementary.
