Overheard a guy talking about it last night at the hotel bar. He said that people will be doing it at noon today. Is this a thing? First I’ve heard of it.

According to the flag code, its a sign of extreme distress. More commonly in the real world it is done as a sign of disrespect.

US FLAG CODE:

The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery. It should never be displayed upside down unless trying to convey a sign of distress or great danger. The flag should never touch anything beneath it; this includes water, merchandise and even the floor.

IMO - disrespectful as a sign of protest.

Some people did this when Obama was elected. You probably had some people do it when Bush was President.

It’s basically a temper tantrum.

More or less so than kneeling on it or burning it?

No it isn't, stop watching MSNBC.

Burning the flag is done as a sign of disrespect.

Flying the flag upside-down is still just a sign of extreme distress for the nation.

There’s a big shooting range off I-20 between Jackson and Meridian that flew their huge flag upside down at least during Obama’s 2nd term.

An election result is not extreme distress to life or property, which is what the upside down flag signifies.

It’s absolutely meant as a sign of disrespect/‘not my President’ etc.

But it's doing exactly what the code says it should be doing by flying upside down?
