F'ing IRS!

Filed my taxes in March for the first time electronically using TurboTax. Got a letter 3 weeks later saying I needed to call a number and verify my identity using previous tax information. I did that. The agent said I was good to go and that, in 3 weeks, I should see it approved on the IRS website and that, in 9 weeks, I'd get my check.
It still hasn't been approved.
Today I got a letter that states:
We're working on your account. However, we need an additional 60 days to send you a complete response regarding the action we are taking on your account. We don't need any further information from you right now.
I have a control number and they said I can mail them or call if I have questions.
I don't understand what the issue is or why they need 60 days to tell me. FML
And, F Scott Bessent. I've wasted countless hours in the last 2 weeks trying to get the IRS on the phone. Any suggestions?

Pretty sure the IRS will only contact you via text. And only take payments in gift cards.

You're getting a check and you're complaining?
Some of us have to pay, buddy.

Regarding the IRS? Yes, a good many suggestions. Unfortunately I'd probably be arrested if I voiced any of them.

You realize that they are fazing out checks? Did you mean DD?
Laughing at you thinking that Bessent is the issue.. hes putting in place much larger policy objectives than worrying about your petty refund
Suggestion is to suck it up and wait the allotted time they said it would take or waste your time on the phone or setting up an appointment..

Why are you still paying, sit on the doorstep drinking that 40 until baby momma gets home with that free food. Everybody’s doing it, sometimes those government steaks and sodas will make the house smell better

If you think trying to contact the IRS started being a problem under Bessant, then you clearly have never tried to interact with that agency.
They are notorious for being a complete waste of space. You can't physically call or meet an IRS worker in person without going through a long protracted back and forth email that takes WEEKS before they reply back, IF they reply back.
Have you ever considered what type of people want to work for the IRS?

Sorry baw. I do agree Frick the IRS.
My father was interdicted in 2020. After a couple years, I was awarded curator of his health and property. I have been fighting with the IRS now for a few months because they say he did not file 2019 and 2020 taxes. I was able to get the electronic filing from the CPA, and turn it over to them, but am now hitting a wall with "well you need to have him sign over POA to you". Like you dumbasses, I gave you the court papers that say he has been interdicted and I am curator. They do not even know what that means. I tried to explain that I cannot have him legally sign POA documents, but that I can legally sign in his stead, but that they have no allowances for that and to do so any other way, could be construed as fraud.
Everyone. Every. Single. One I talked to was an obvious DEI hire.

Wait. Even if you get through. They are going to tell you the same thing.
You think this is taking a while.. try filling out a 1040-X for someone and waiting out the processing time. It almost seems like there is one guy in the entire country that is processing those things.
I mean... we did reduce staffing there by a lil over a fourth. So a lil wait time is the trade off. It will be processed. Just chill.

It's interesting how perspective differ.
I've known many people who look forward to their tax refund every year. In reality, a refund simply means you overpaid your taxes in withholdings.
I told our accountant, that if I ever found I was due a refund after the government had had my money for a year, I'd fire him.

Just based on your post, I would break down and start hiring someone to do the taxes if I were you.
It's clear you are in over your head and a professional is there for just such situations.
I've filed, between federal and state, tax returns electronically dozens of times. In all but 1 case it went literally without a hitch. In that 1 case, I made a mistake and it was easily corrected with just a single communication each way (they told me what was wrong and I fixed it).

Not really. Sounds like you got flagged. Maybe they are saying its incorrect?
Turbo Tax has a fee if you pay they will fight for you. I would contact them and ask to find out. I thought their services are guaranteed regardless.

Call them in afternoon around 3PM. Much quicker than the que before lunch. And also the cust serv rep/agent that answers is way more helpful and in a better mood by then.

Sounds like someone else may have filed using your SS number.

Probably not: well not for audit probably . Sounds like it's taking a detour into ID verification before getting the go ahead since this is first time filing and did it individually.
That's a hell of a lot better than the reverse.
