Could soften with being thankful for being in a nation that once again celebrates truth, freedom, and return to integrity.

OR - could thank God that the nation voted to SAVE DEMOCRACY!!!

I’m visiting my mom for Thanksgiving. I’ll be the only conservative in the house. She’s a lib. Not as extreme as my sister, but her friends she’ll be having over for Thanksgiving are probably that level of bat shite. Well, tonight two of her friends that are staying with us arrived and they’re sitting around the table after dinner going off about politics, mainly Trump. There’s really no point to even engage after hearing the mainstream media talking points they’re rattling off. So, I took their plates away for them and cleaned up the kitchen then found solitude outside in the backyard with the dogs.

It was in my isolation when it hit me. On Thanksgiving when we’re all gathered around the table about to enjoy a nice meal, it’s typical for everyone to share what they’re thankful for. I will of course say I’m thankful for my mother and her friends for being around for the holiday, but I decided I will add that what I’m most thankful for this year is Donald J Trump. I usually don’t get involved in political discussions around her or that sort of company, but frick it I wanna see some faces melt.

Bro report back after you do this. Great idea my man

Out of curiosity, how’d you end up conservative with a liberal mom? Or did either of you change views to the other side?

I get it, but they still are your family and you apparently care for them if you’re spending time with them. At the first mention of politics, jump in and request no mention of politics. “Let’s enjoy each others company”. If they refuse just excuse yourself like you just did and stop going.

Don't forget to throw in some smooth Trumpian dance moves at the end. Maybe have YMCA queued up or better yet take it back to 2016 with You Can't Always Get What You Want. You can't reason with these people but maybe you can reach them through the subtle power of interpretative dance.

I always presumed people’s worldview was shaped by their life experiences, but could also be some sort of rebellion against their upbringing, specifically the things they were unhappy with that they grew to resent as they got older. When I was younger, my mom supported Obama therefore I did too. That was at a time where I wasn’t really mature enough to understand how different liberals/conservatives and republicans/democrats outlooks were on life.

But, as I got older, started working full time and supporting myself, I developed more traditional values. Her upbringing was in a very traditionally conservative household/family. Her father supports Trump. My observation is she always felt he never gave her much attention as a child as he was an attorney for a Texas oil company which meant he was constantly working and moving the family around wherever his career took them. So, in my opinion, her rebellious impulse was to lean to the opposite and surround herself with likeminded individuals.

And as far as my own rebellious spirit, I suppose the reasons for my views as an adult could also be attributed to being around her and her kind where I in turn developed resentment towards a group of, for lack of better terminology, “weak, pussy footed, limp wrist ‘males’” accompanied by their “hyper sensitive, emotionally charged self described ‘strong, smart and independent female’ partners.”

It’s not as bad as the victory Biden had over Trump in 2020. Two less EVs and much more of the popular vote.

Says even more how much of a failure his administration has been. Everybody bailed on him. And the younger voters who were fooled by Biden and his cronies learned about the lies of the democrats and said “not again liberals”

Is it normal for families to discuss politics at Thanksgiving?

Idk about your family, but mine prefer to argue, rather than discuss. Which is why I don’t like to engage for the most part. If I don’t see get to see my family members except for around the holidays I don’t want to argue over that shite. But, my mom is the only family member here and the rest of the people visiting are her friends, so I really don’t give a frick. If they want to bring it up and beat their chests thinking they’re in a safe space, then I will be their conservative Huckleberry.

I was just curious as my husband and his siblings are all conservative and while his parents would ‘t call themselves liberal, they sure were Obama and Hilary and Biden people.

I don’t ever talk politics .. I tend to leave the room when those convos start. My bil however loves to stir the pot.

My husbands answer when I ask him how this happened he just says “they watch too much cnn”.

I'm sorry your girl lost.

My guy won. I had full size cutouts of Trump and Vance on either side of my TV and 10 friends over for a watch party. All of them were pro-Trump.

Oh yeah, I have an apartment rented through Air bnb for the inauguration. It’s about ten blocks from the grounds.
