How is spending millions of dollars on corrupt laundering boondoggle within the purview of FEMA? Especially as Florida is still recovering from a hurricane a few weeks ago?

quote:

Lost amidst the devastation left behind in Florida by Hurricane Ian, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) quietly announced what appears to be nearly $200 million in funding for an ambitious solar project in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI).

quote:

The scary part of FEMA’s emergency solar program in the USVI: A hurricane similar to Maria or Irma would decimate the grids, leaving the islands to depend on backup, baseload power.

quote:

The USVI is sitting on over $2.6 billion from FEMA and over $1.6 billion from HUD that was allocated for recovery, but is yet to be spent. Nevertheless, President Biden’s FEMA is still showering the territory with what appears to be a $200 million check to start the transition towards 100 percent solar energy.

Rather than spend what was already allocated, Washington is more than willing to shovel away money that would otherwise be used to immediately help communities actually impacted by recent disasters, like Southwest Florida.

FEMA has grown way too large.

It went from helping people out to buying houses after Katrina.

This is the type of waste you get when government grows too large.

I'm willing to bet they can't locate $5 of that $2.6B today.

Crime aside, this idea will go bye bye in the wind literally. The first storm of which there are many would take them out quickly leaving no power regardless. So obviously this is slush fund payment

The Virgins have a delicate ecosystem.

Should take years of environmental study before this is green lit.

The U.S. Virgin Islands is one of the most corrupt and inefficiently ran places... I am actually surprised they are sitting on FEMA money and haven't already stuffed the pockets....

They make Hurricane proof solar panels?

We could just take that money and burn it. At least then it won’t go over budget.

There’s not enough technicians in the US to fix solar panels and somehow USVI is going to be able to keep up? Not to mention the hurricane damage and saltwater corrosion.
