Many on this Board are closer to Katrina than I was…but wasn’t it a shite show until that General or whoever was sent in to take charge? This whole thing smacks of multiple beaurocrats who never had to do anything in their life with no single chain of authority or effective individuals in charge.
I don’t know who, if anyone, is actually in charge of the response to this disaster. It should be the governor of North Carolina. The response should have actually started in the days before the hurricane hitting. Step one would be to place National Guard units on alert for call-up. As I said, in addition to warfighting, the other main mission of the Guard is disaster relief. Coordination should have already been started between the governor’s office and federal officials to have plans in place to deploy Guard assets from North Carolina and neighboring states the moment the hurricane passes. This coordination should also have included planning with non-profits like Samaritan's Purse and others who specialize in immediate disaster relief following things like major hurricanes. There should have been coordination between electric utility officials in North Carolina and neighboring states to have power line crews staged and ready to roll to restore power to affected areas. Foodstuffs and bottled water should have been made ready to bring in. There should have been both people and resources staged and ready to go.
The disaster of the hurricane was unavoidable. The disaster of the hurricane response was entirely avoidable.
Here we are a week later. Has anything like I described happened? Do we know who, if anyone, is even in charge of this effort?

To claim the governor of North Carolina is limited due to lack of National Guard resources is patently absurd.
I never said he was. I said the NC Guard, which is what he controls, doesn’t have everything that the active duty has. You can shitpost all you like but it doesn’t change the reality.

There’s no confiscation of supplies or of products coming in from FEMA or TEMA.”
The governor should have a chat with this guy and Johnson County Sheriff Clifton Worley Jr. because it appears this sheriff confiscated supplies on orders from Nashville (Assuming TEMA). The sheriff did this because he accused the volunteer running the show of stealing.

Is FEMA armed? What would happen if someone just said “no thanks frick off?”
I've been reading quite a bit lately on the "temporary" authority granted to FEMA when an emergency is declared. It's scary.
They can and will lawfully seize supplies and goods donated to churches and private entities. They can and will lawfully seize firearms and ammunition from private citizens to "mitigate potential for violence". They can and will go door to door to the homes of private citizens to lawfully seize food, supplies and sundries that they determine to be "in excess of the individuals' needs". You been stocking up a big prepper pantry of freeze dried foods and dry food in mylar with oxygen absorbers along with stacks of canned food? You better have it in a well hidden and secret storage area because FEMA can and will lawfully seize your multiple years worth of hard work and effort on the spot, and are under ZERO obligation to ever replace it.
Truth. In an "emergency" the government seizes your constitutional rights wholly and is under no obligation to restore them until they see fit, if ever.

FEMA does not take donations and/or food from survivors or voluntary organizations. Donations of food, water, or other goods are handled by voluntary agencies who specialize in storing, sorting, cleaning, and distributing donated items.
FEMA does not conduct vehicle stops or handle road closures with armed guards -- those are done by local law enforcement.
Yeah. Mike Tyson can be punching you in the face and simultaneously releasing a statement that he isn't punching you in the face.
Are you more inclined to believe his statement, or his actions? Answer.

Reading comprehension is not your strong suit. I’ve posted three times that the National Guard is better structured for disaster relief than active duty forces. What part of…
DISASTER RESPONSE IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE TWO REASONS THE NATIONAL GUARD EXISTS
When disasters like this happen, they don’t call in the army, they call in the National fricking Guard you stupid idiot.
And the governor of the affected state has the ability, and the responsibility, to coordinate with the federal government and governors of neighboring states to bring in help to the affected areas.

Much like the government did with the Japanese which has been found to be unconstitutional I would argue no and I think gunfire would be the result

Yesterday there were X posts about how private rescues were stopped by the government for the last few days. Then there were posts that private rescues were the only ones actually happening the last few days. So which is it?
It can be both. Can you not wrap your head around how???

National Guard, Deployed Across Southeast, Sees 'Long Recovery' Ahead as Helene Death Toll Rises
The National Guard said Thursday it has fanned out across states and communities hard hit by Hurricane Helene but warned that recovery from the deadly storm will take time.
Guardsmen were assisting in opening up roadways for emergency crews, rescuing families and pets from flooding, delivering food and water, and other key tasks as the death toll from the storm climbed to more than 200, making it one of the most devastating hurricanes in recent U.S. history.
About 6,700 members of the National Guard were deployed across the Southeast on Thursday, according to the service briefing on the recovery efforts. The response since last week when Helene made landfall in the U.S. includes more than 40 aircraft and 600 vehicles from 16 states, among them Florida, Tennessee, Maryland and the Carolinas.

I think this admin is using this disaster as an opportunity to try to create an event. Its obvious the neglect is intentional. It has to be devastating to the affected people. I can see this pushing good people over the edge.

What you showed in that post is a basic plan in how to deal with this that a week later still hasn’t been put together…and you’re not the Governor. I can’t understand how these elected officials can be this incompetent.

Why is always women that seem to be in charge of these failing government institutions???

Rumors about FEMA turning away donations, stopping trucks or vehicles with donations, and seizing supplies often spread after a disaster. These are all false.
