I would expect this in California, not Florida. GOP is useless.

The Florida GOP is expected to pass their new hate crime bill this legislative session. If Governor Ron DeSantis signs the bill into law, Florida will have worse hate crime laws than California, New York, Connecticut and every other state in the Union.

So telling someone to pull up their damn pants and quit looking like a moron will be a felony?

What fun is laughing if you can’t laugh at someone. My sense of humor never evolved past Jr. High

Free speech mother frickers.
Ever heard of it?

And hate crimes are thought crimes.
How the hell do you know if it was hate in their heart or mind?
You don't.

Florida is a very diverse State. This isn’t about someone wearing pants too big for them. This is about people wearing clothes often associated with their culture or religion. Pan African, Jamaican, etc

Posters have to be more responsible here. Anyone claiming this is about loose pants etc is no better than the fake news we find with CNN and MSNBC.

On the other hand, if you follow a lady down the street taunting her about wearing a kente cloth (or a man for wearing a yarmulke), you might.

I tend to agree. Behavior is either criminal or not criminal. The motivation of the actor should not be particularly relevant.

A murder victim is no less dead, dependent upon whether he was killed for carrying a wallet or wearing a crescent moon.

So why are a group of Jewish Republicans led by DeSantis ally Randy Fine pushing this bill in Florida?

you would have to ask the individual sponsors of this bill, but I can provide a more general answer.

The theory, as I understand it, is that this sort of law will serve as a disincentive to targeting people who are doing nothing more than exercising their rights to religious expression.

If I make fun of the Jews for their stupid little hat, they’ll send me to jail?

The tweet has a screen shot of the text of the bill.

Bro's commentary isn't correct, but the text is there.

The tried this in the US military back in the early 2000’s. I forget the UCMJ code, but it didn’t work as intended.

It will make saying anything about someone's dress illegal. According to the law. That's what the law says. Are you back on the side of intent again?

The law basically says “it is illegal to follow and harass people because of their religion.”

And for some reason, the idiots here go nuts because it will be good for Jewish people. I swear you losers are almost as bad as antifa and the woke left

Pretty worrisome bill. It says right at the beginning that if a person hands out fliers, it is a felony.

No way that SCOTUS will let it stand.
