Federal judge blocks California law requiring Trump tax returns

A federal judge issued a temporary injunction against a California state law that requires presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns to appear on the primary ballot.
President Trump's lawyers and the Republican National Committee had challenged the law.
U.S. District Judge Morrison England Jr., a George W. Bush appointee on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, said there would be "irreparable harm without temporary relief" for Trump and other candidates if he did not make the rare temporary decision to block the law, The Los Angeles Times reported.
The California law, which was signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), requires candidates for president or governor to provide five years of federal tax returns to appear on the state's primary ballot.

I'm guessing temporary means this is not a final decision, but one to hold everything as it was before the law was signed, until final decision by him is adjudicated..

Well, it also likely means that the court found that there was a likelihood of success at trial on the merits of the case.
So considering that this judge will be, in all likelihood, the same judge that will render a final judgment on a case and controversy that is a purely legal question, then (barring some unfortunate encounter with the Clintons), I'd say this one is pretty much a wrap.
Nice try, California tyrant pussies.

I would just as soon have California leave Trump off the ballot, so we can tell California to stick their electoral votes in their arse.

This is troubling obsession. Incredibly obsessive. I'm in awe how deeply hateful dems are. How can any R ever trust these psychos?

Yes that is correct; however, what is rather unique was Judge England issuing a verbal ruling on the matter. From the reports, Judge England based his order on the EIGA preempting any state law requirement for disclosure. Once he reduces his ruling to a written order, CA will likely appeal and we will all have a better idea of the range of issues in the appeal. As others have noted, absent a remand or the appeals court overruling the decision, it will be an uphill battle for CA. That is(as noted by others) the judge seems pretty confident in his decision and there isn’t going to be much evidence or questions of fact.

I have not seen the briefing, but news reports indicate that Trump’s arguments centered upon Art.II, Sec.1, Clause.5 of the Constitution, while California relied upon the fact that each State gets to set its own rules for choosing Electors (Clause.1).
It almost seems that neither side expected Judge England to focus upon the notion that the Ethics In Government Act of 1978 (EIGA) preempts any State requirements based upon financial disclosure.
It wil be interesting to see the written Order when it gets issued. Hard to evaluate the ruling until we see its basis.

Trump should tell them to pound sand. Trump will win the 49 other states in the GOP primaries so being on the ballot in California wouldn't even matter.

GCT, are you a conservative?
I know you are against Orange, but I don’t think you’ve ever revealed your own ideology

About some things, yes.
About others I'm pretty liberal.
I'm actually not "against" Trump. I agree with him about plenty of things. I disagree with him about plenty of things too.

Hold everything! We have a late breaking story. Apparently Gavin Newsom was so enraged by the Judge's decision he ran outside, grabbed a handfull of feces on the sidewalk and splattered it against the exterior wall of the capital.
Stayed tuned for further developments.
