The private schools with the results you want don't accept vouchers.

I keep ribbing 4Chubbs because she has refused to answer... which, as we know, and not suprprisingly, means she believes Clancy is not guilty. Otherwise she would have been clear on it weeks ago rather than avoiding answering.

Wow that's almost as annoying as you not being able to find the one post where I said I wanted Talrico to win

I 100% agree with Friedman.
Did you know he supported the voucher system?
I do believe we can have awesome results via public education. We saw it here until just a couple decades ago. We see it in other countries. It can be done.
I am no expert at how to fix it. I am just admittedly screaming at clouds in this topic because we all see that there is something horribly wrong with the state of our public education. We however, ask government to fix the government's mess. No one but government created the mess. They cannot fix it(much like most of this country's ills). At this point, I do not think it can be saved as it is. It needs to be torn down and rebuilt.

I know. I wish I had more input other than "tear it all down".
Not quite sure I like the voucher system as it stands now. I do however, love school of choice.

What I'm trying to reconcile is (are?) his seemingly conflicting positions about local governance in public education. He argues that the State can dictate that its citizens must achieve some level of education, but he says individual communities should determine the extent of that education. He argues that the societal benefits of education diminish as children get older and each community should (through their own local governance) determine the threshold of required, government-subsidized education.
But then he argues that each individual family should determine which institution or school should educate their child, using vouchers to subsidize the cost of educating the child.
Seems like if the state has an interest in ensuring each child gets some basic level of literacy, it should have an interest in ensuring the options for obtaining that basic level of literacy are adequate. On the front end-- not after years of bad test scores signal that the school should be closed down.

You can give Orleans Parish , Baltimore County, Jackson MS, and on and on a trillion dollars a year of funding and the education as well as test scores will not improve.
No one wants to just face the facts.

Look at Baltimore, at DC, at inner cities across the nation and you tell me, do you think the public option achieves the outcome Friedman is describing?

Weird how you make a post about this which should be something you support based on your post history. Provide no commentary on why you agree or disagree. Then say it’s a program riddled with fraud. Me thinks if this was Biden you’d be flicking your bean to the news

Wait until you see the nil money and open enrollment issues for ESports

Common set of values you say?
Interesting.
Interesting.

In terms of shared values? That’s a hard sell. I’ve worked in “no nonsense” charter schools. The value is compliance. Unwavering and uncritical compliance. Of course the government has an interest in training its citizens to be uncritically compliant. I don’t believe that is in the best interest of the citizens or society at large.
I also know that this compliance is easier to ingrain at younger ages, which is why so many of these schools start with a kinder founding class and add a grade each year.
I also wonder how shared values can be achieved through fragmented charter and voucher schools who are in competition with each other and are trying to de themselves apart.
I am not as familiar with high school outcomes. I did a very quick google search and see that DC’s highest performing high schools are indeed charter schools.

Friedman said.
Not sure how a common set of values can be achieved through stand alone schools that are in competition with each other.

If your governor opts in, your family may be eligible to benefit from this transformative program and could use these resources to send your child to a new school, pay for private tutoring, or provide other educational support
We could already have this in Louisiana except fo the piece of shite LA Senate President Cameron Henry refusing to allow full funding of LA Gator program as Landry requested. Remember this the next time this a-hole runs for office.

im not sure about vouchers, i think it just moves kids to a different school and creates the same problem.
public school system needs to be fixed and it just by passes the real problem.
