Wasn’t the original map (2021) based off just this?

Pretty sure that’s the case. Also, isn’t that type of thing exactly what the LA SCOTUS case was just about?

That may actually be better for republicans. The redrawn lines may have over-diluted the republican vote in many of the districts.

No. It's a classic case Republicans being on the same team as the Dems acting like they aren't.

This will always be such a strange cope to me.

2nd only to saying every election you lose being fraudulent.

This is American politics. Things sway back and forth. Nothing is perpetual.

I bet California gets to use their new map though

This pretty much seals the win of the house for the Dems in 2026

Californians actually voted for redistricting to occur, unlike Texas.

Substantial evidence shows that Texas undid the racially gerrymandered Map to stop it from over-representing democrats by drawing districts that look like octopus tentacles.”

What does Californians voted for redistricting have to do with the legal argument that it racially discriminates in Texas?

If you read the order, the Court ruled that the TX gerrymander is illegal in part because it was spurred by a letter from Trump's DOJ that demanded a redrawing for explicitly racial reasons. Take that up with AAG Dhillon, who sent the letter. POST LINK

But abusing your power through choosing how much a persons vote counts in a given area, specifically to win elections, is not how a democracy should function.

It isn't how a democracy should function, but many blue states already function that way. There is the ideal of how something should function and the reality of how it does function. There are two different sets of rules at play.

And there is no such thing as a non-partisan commission. Just because the members have supposed split party affiliation doesn't make it non-partisan. The Jan 6 commission was supposedly bipartisan because it included Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, and those two did everything they could to rig the Jan 6 commission against Republicans.

They had to do this. Texas and California have different laws on re-districting and both of them followed the only legal path available.

It's not like the deep blue CA legislature would have rejected this or the deep red TX populace would have rejected a referendum if those options were available.

Can we agree that it shouldn’t exist in ANY form?

Absolutely.

Let's have every district in the country drawn by Independent Redistricting Commissions. LINK
