that sucks. send a link - i can always use a way to get out of the doghouse with the lady friend
my company has had 4 price increases this year for distributors. 4. the past decade it's been one in january, maybe another mid year on specific items. sucks. art of the deal

It does suck. Tiffany Adler custom designed my wedding band that I’m obsessed with and get so many compliments on all the time. It has stones going all the way around the band and they’ve replaced any stone that’s gotten cracked or fallen out free of charge for many years. It’s been ten years now so I think we’re finally going to have to pay to replace the last sone that needs replacing. My husband dropped it off a few days ago.
I hope it’s not paywalled: Adler's jewelry store is closing after 127 years in New Orleans: 'Tiffany's of the South'
smart man. I received a pearl necklace and matching earrings this week myself.

quote:No, he didn’t. Adler specifically said near the end of the article you linked that tariffs, or “headwinds” as he called them, had nothing to do with his decision to close.
and cited tariffs as one of the deciding factors in shutting down.
He said he is closing because he is 83, wants to retire, and none of his children want to work in the business. They all have other careers that don’t involve jewelry.
Your tariff claim is one of your most blatant biased fabrications EVER.

It's not competition or that gold prices are through the roof...even before tariffs...or that younger people don't care about fancy, expensive jewelry, silverware and expensive china as much etc...etc...etc.
And the owner specifically stated that "headwinds" did NOT impact his decision to close the business. He's going to be 83 years old and didn't want to force the business on his children.

“Tariffs have made it hard,” Gizzi said. “Retailers are eating a lot of the cost to keep from passing it on to their customers.”
Adler acknowledges the headwinds but said they didn’t impact his decision to close the stores.

Which isn't going to happen long term
Absolutely wrong!
Once the investment is made on the factory support structures, support equipment, and finally the high technology fabrication equipment and robotics, that plant WILL NOT stop or quit for a long time. Just the supporting vendors development of supply chain will keep a manufacturing company from looking around for a long time. Tool life expectancy is usually 7 years or more. Then newer, more efficient and advanced tools will take their place. When that happens, company needs an operational fab to put them in. A green field, first fab with support buildings and equipment for an empty microelectronics fab starts at about 10 billion dollars. The high tech equipment to make the chips is probably more than double that.
You don't know what you're talking about when it comes to manufacturing and need to sit this one out.

He doesn’t want to force anyone to run the family business like he was forced to starting at 29. All his kids worked for him. As I said, Tiffany designed my wedding band 11 or 12 years ago.

He implied they played a role in his decision to retire. He would not be closing the store if he planned to continue working.
He is closing the store because he is retiring. He is retiring because he’s a couple years older than our POTUS and running the business has gotten harder and more expensive because of our POTUS.

You are a liar and just got caught

Manufacturing will never truly come back as long as the US has:
1. a minimum wage
2. OSHA laws
3. Government mandated insurance coverage
for employees
4. Dept of Labor
5. Insurance premiums through the roof for
all types of commercial coverage.
The average Chinese worker makes 4 x less than the US factor worker. Add this to the 5 points listed above and you can see what is preventing large scale manufacturing from returning to the US.
