Say an ISP stumbles across the Poliboard and doesn't like its right leaning ways. Well guess what lets slow it down.
You honestly think this is going to happen?
C'mon man

Free market will balance it out.
That's the thing though, there isn't a free market. These companies are being granted market monopolies.
Look at cell service. They tried to do what ISPs WILL be doing and the free market sorted it out. Unlimited data is a thing again. As it stands, a HUGE portion of the country can't just shop around for ISPs like you can cell phone service.

Prioritizing traffic and making users pay more for packets isn't free market or American.
Tell that to toll road companies.

Expensive compared to what exactly
Other parts of the world, or when an area in the US has multiple providers to drive the price down.

Do you quit paying for gas when it goes up?
No but I might go to a different gas station that's cheaper.
quote:I would if I had the option or the competition in my area to do so.
You going to stop your internet service when the bill goes up?
quote:You clearly don't understand the issue about making one packet of traffic more important than the other.
BTW, my response was to the question about paying for TDs. You sound like a Democrat in Arkansas wanting free shite all the time.

You mean the state gov't???
That money at least gets put back into maintaining the roads.
ISPs on the other hand.....

The only companies ISP throttling might affect are the big content providers like Netflix, Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc.
Which is why they're the ones leading the charge for net neutrality. They don't give a frick about net neutrality or you. What they do give a frick about is actually having to fork out money for their peering and CDNs.
This ^
This give cable companies power to directly limit their competitors especially is cases such as Netflix and Amazon.

It was fun while it lasted boys:

I actually disagree here. It’s not about money: it’s about power and control. The MSM is fricking terrified that they’ve lost the narrative. They firmly blame YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter for Trump winning the election. Twitter and Facebook will probably survive it, but it will without question be the death of YouTube. They are trying to turn it into Hulu and are actively demonetizing really anyone who isn’t with the Big Six or doesn’t follow their narrative.
And to this fricking a-hole who tries to act like he’s everyone’s buddy:
Please go frick off into the nearest sewer and never emerge from it again.
Here’s John Oliver explaining Net Neutrality in great detail in two parts:
June 2014
May 2017

What these guys want is YouTube to pay for a faster connection, so YouTube charges you for a faster connection.
Or even Tigerdroppings pays, we pay, or it slows to a snails pace.
That’s what it’s all about. Money.

That's false. Unless you live in a major city. Most Americans only have 1 or 2 ISP choices. With one or even both being substandard.

So what changes from what is currently going on?
Why is this good or bad

What fake scare tactics???

You do realize fast lanes and restricting traffic will lead to censorship, esp of publications that certain ISPs think don't agree with their political views.

so you want an already expensive bill to sky rocket?

NN is basically a road block for ISPs to start prioritizing traffic on the internet. There still needs to be major changes to the local monopolies and such.
quote:
Why is this good or bad
Its bad if NN goes away bc ISPs can make certain aspects of the internet unusable.

The vast majority of folks have far less realistic options, satellite and cellular are not very viable for most.

B/c upstarts who want to challenge the big boys will not even be given the chance.
The FCC has a looooong history of being the puppet to large telecoms. They kept satellite TV deliver off the market for decades as a sweet little gift to cable companies. Terrible for consumers. Great for cable companies.
But I suppose this time it will be different...
