James Ashbacher, 37, worked security at U.S. Army Special Operations Command...according to the DOJ, he photographed classified ops footage and posted it online, where other users then spread it to a second site ??

When it started spreading, he allegedly messaged someone asking them to take it down, saying he was "trying to do some damage control"

When agents searched his home, they reportedly found a classified award write-up AND a missing night vision goggle system belonging to a special ops unit

I've posted a few videos and images from operations and missions I was involved in as a contractor but ONLY after submitting them to my DoD public affairs contacts for a classified check just to be safe. Most of the time it was ITAR related and just needed it looked at to make sure we weren't revealing anything. Once cleared for public distribution I could do what I wanted. This guy totally fricked up and got lazy about the rules. Dumbass is going to get shite canned by his employer.

May this be the least of his concerns.

As someone who had access to TS material when I hear about intentional negligence I just hope the worst things that can happen to them can happen. Oh and I got out of the military at the beginning of October after 13 years that's why I had access.

So whats the difference between doing this and just handing it over to our enemies as if they were a spy? Seems like penalty should be death either way.

It sounds like he doesn't hold that position anymore. None of the releases say when he left, though.

Death seems to be a little severe for some idiot who wanted to brag about some activity he did not realizing that what he posted was top secret until he realized it was. If he was taking cash for leaking it then yes Death but stupidity probably deserves 5 years and a dishonorable discharge unless someone was killed because of it then the severity should go up.
