I struggle to push over 180 on corn on it, though.

I’ve had fields go anywhere from 140-240 experimenting with buckshot corn. Making 240 is expensive though and you have to be perfect on timing. I had like 275 units of N flown out in 6 different applications. I don’t do that on every acre. I look at buckshot corn as a two year deal. You try to eek out a satisfactory return the year you grow corn, and then you really reap the benefits the next year when you have that rotated cotton crop picking 3 bales.

On the gin side of things, I have heard about NWLA having a ginning capacity problem. I’m in an area where cotton never really went away, so the infrastructure is still here.

tough fricking shite. Are soybeans the only thing they can grow? I feel their pain, but China has been fricking the US over for years. Time they get right. If soybean farmers are taking a hit, too bad. Lots of other industries have taken hits too. They won't get a subsidy or setaside tho.

muh polibored. Seriously, the only reason you have 13 upvotes is because this is the OT; otherwise, the Trump Army on the poli board would destroy you.

Farming is the only industry in the history of the world whereas a product is produced and the producer has no say whatsoever in how much they charge consumers for their product.

Well, farming and every other commodity market if you’re talking about worldwide prices (not monopolized by a few producers like diamonds). Oil, gold, silver, copper, iron ore, bauxite are tied to supply and demand. The only control producers have is to limit production and somebody always decides to blink and start taking profits by increasing production, other follow suit and prices drop.

Unless you’re talking about something different. If so please explain.

I’ll bet! We need to go to more split nitrogen applications. We’ve historically been just one-shot-ing it with sidedressing, thus I’ve had serious concerns of denitrification.

It’s not just the NW part of the state, honestly. I’m in the NE and gins over here are getting stretched pretty thin due to previous closures as well. My particular parish stuck with it moreso than most, but in general ginning power is definitely the limiting factor.

I've had experience with farm bill. One thing I took away is that they can be as bad as crawfish farmers. They want a bigger hand out so they can get a new f250 every year.

I got my directions mixed up. I meant NELA, but I saw where the person talking about gins was from NWLA.

And yeah, I don’t want to tell anybody how to farm, but a 3 shot approach has really paid off on the corn fertilization. I like to have like 50 units of N and some Sulfur out within a couple weeks of planting to get it going, then knife in about 150, and fly on another 50-75 pre-tassel... I think I’m going to abandon the knife rigs and make some homemade y-drops for the sprayer and side dress like that. Trying to reduce compaction and have a little more reliability on rate and placement with the sprayer rather than a ground driven pump and relying on somebody to watch a red ball gauge.

As someone who gets income from soybean farming I say frick 'em. Keep the tariffs in place. We'll just plant more rice and increase the crawfishing acreage.

I appreciate the advice! The only way to improve is to continue to innovate ( or imitate) so thank you for sharing.

I’ve seen a good bit of talk about this. Let me know how it turns out! And yes, the less you need to rely on someone else being attentive the better.

We’ve been debating bumping our sulfur up to 28-0-0-4 from 30-0-0-2 for the lighter dirt on corn. Most data is pointing towards it needing it for the higher yields and lower deposits from rain.

I know some good people up there. My great-uncle used to own a place and farm up on Roundaway Bayou a lifetime ago. I believe the Lee’s farm it now.

So it looks like there's about 300,000 soybean farmers in the USA? That seems high to me. That's 1/1000th of the US population.

Global politics and economy is a bitch. People act like we can do something to change it without someone getting punched in the mouth. That's not how it works.

I feel for the farmers, but someone has to take it on the chin in order to put our foot down and do what is best for the rest of the country.

This is not true if you’re referring to the MFP payments as the mound of cash. Farm operators above 900k AGI can’t receive those payments.
