Why do you think big farmers need it the least? Also what makes one a big farmer?

Farmers have been sucking (abusing) that government tit for years. They’ll survive, and then turn around and figure out a way to get more money out of em.

I said it earlier and I’ll say it again:

If it’s such a gravy train come get you some.

No one is holding a gun to your head, preventing you from raking in this (theoretical) sweet government money.

I’ll bet dollars to donuts every farmer I know works 2-3x harder than you and every other ignorant arse who wants to talk trash. You don’t know hard times until you’ve logged multiple 100+ hr weeks only to reach the end and watch it all be for naught when a Cat 4 hurricane rolls through. Or a drought. Or disease. Or boll weevils.

You don’t even begin to comprehend.

Corporate farms

Most farm welfare doesn't go to a guy working 40 acres. It does to multi millionaire farmers who deal in volume.

Farm welfare is atrocious and needs to end

I don’t want your money. I want my markets.

It’s not like soybeans are the only crop affected by this. 75% of cotton is exported, along with 50% of rice, and wheat.

Those crops plus the aforementioned soybeans make up 153 million acres of production (or just over HALF of the total planted acreage in the country).

The U.S. ag sector is an export economy. Take away foreign markets and there is nowhere to run to. It’s not a case of “oh well they can plant something else”. No, you can’t. Corn makes up 2/3 of that other 150 million and if you suddenly planted everything else to corn its price would go south so fast it would make your tiny little head spin.

We NEED these markets. If you break all of the farmers in a trade war then you’ll see how much of a “you” problem it is when all of your food and clothing costs go through the roof.

Who cares? Name me a single other economic sector that is still largely comprised of family owned/operated units and yet so subject to the whims of government policy? I’ll wait.

Just because farming has evolved from the”40 acres and a mule” days to the high-tech, larger-scale operations we have now that doesn’t make your modern farmer a villain. We’re going through the same revolutions everyone else is. We had to get big or get out. Commodity prices didn’t rise with everything else in life. We’ve had to make bigger crops using less people on more acres since no one else wants to do this work (necessitating the need for “300k” tractors).

I knew exactly what I was getting into when I chose this line of work. My family had done it for generations and I had been educated enough to look beyond the farming bubble. You’d probably think we were a “corporate” farm if I told you our acreage size but I can assure you we’re not. We don’t insurance farm or plant to maximize government payments. We watch the markets and farm/invest to profit on our own two feet.

Which is what makes these tariff situations so frustrating. WE did everything right. It’s not our fault that you need your IP protected. It’s really not my problem. But I understand and sympathize as to why it’s being done and I would APPRECIATE a little sympathy when we take our licks in order for you and the rest to have a better market as well.

That’s because nobody works 40 acres

You can’t make a liveable wage on 40 acres. That is literally nothing

why do people CONTINUE to make stupid, already refuted assertions?

first, MANY people agree with trump on this strategy so, it's misleading to say "trump's policies." second, THERE WAS ALREADY PAIN. at least someone is FINALLY trying to address the problem. trump did not create new pain out of nothing

my word it's unbelievable how stubborn and obstinate people are

I don't think you even know what that means.

How much should a guy farming 40 acres get?

Then why are they planting soybeans? The fields that aren’t in sugar cane are in soybeans.

The US provides 75% of the world's soybeans. China uses 75% of the world's soybeans.
We'll see who blinks first.

We just strung some wire around last years bean fields and are running more cows this year. It'll work out.

And I would rather sell my crops to the highest bidder. But then your groceries would be 10x what they are now.

This is the case for all government regulation. People think regulation helps the little guy, but the only people who can afford the overhead causes bu regulation are the big entities. This is why regulation stifles competition

And Mr. "Fiscal Conservative" arse-clown Trump is trying to buy the farmers' votes with billions in subsidies that are financed by increasing the national debt. Note that Trump's federal budget deficits are running close to a trillion dollars a year. Oh, but we hear nothing but silence from the hypocrite Republicans who did nothing but whine and bitch about the deficits under the Obama administration (which a large portion was inherited from Bozo the Clown Dubya and his irresponsible fiscal poliicies).

Tigersfan64, you do realize like 90% of the deficit increase under trump has been due to social security and Medicare, right?

Also, your party’s candidates are all advocating for extremely expensive new programs
