Fox was showing snippets of the protests and they were super calm.

Then all of a sudden, SHTF and it was on People throwing rocks and bottles, tear gas getting launched.

That governor needs to step down ASAP for being an idiot IMO

Everytime a failed Democratically run Gov collapses from shear corruption or policies, they blame somebody else. It’s just amazing to see people still voting their own Doom...

Without our billions pouring into PR, it would be Haiti. That place is a shithole, corrupt to the core. It's like Mexico in that regard, with everyone getting bribes from top to bottom. Any government service interaction requires under the table cash. I could tell stories about getting sent there as a very new fed and seeing bundles of cash and cocaine stored in the ceilings of their police stations.

It's stunning how bribery is such a part of third world life. If you get pulled over by the police, need utilities, want to enroll your kid in school, want to start a business, you name it- you're greasing palms.

I love when PR officials get indignant when someone accuses them of financial mismanagement. It's a clown show.

How much money did we give those 3rd world morons after the storm? How much of that island is still in ruins?

We should grant them unilateral independence.

We needed PR to protect the Panama Canal way back in the day.

If we tried to cut them loose, as Americans, they would move to the mainland. This would just increase the DNC Electoral College vote. Let them be the first Americans to destroy themselves. With California, they can be an object lesson on how not to run a territory.

A couple of decades ago the US passed a federal law making it VERY attractive to manufacture there. Most drug companies, insulin, heck even Hanes underwear. The year the tax break ended many companies had already set up manufacturing in other countries and just shut the doors in PR. They did not plan for squat, so they just borrowed and borrowed, even using govt buildings and land for collateral and the tenants then charged rent to the govt for buildings they used to own.

There are now a million PR living from Orlando to Tampa, they are the productive ones. Whats left are corrupt politicians, govt employees (half the island) and the poor. It is a disgrace and the previous poster is correct, typical 3rd world bribery at every turn.

Yet Trump was lambasted for trying to put controls on the 10s of billions of dollars we gave them.

Is it okay to wonder why all the carribean, central American, and northern South American countries, and Mexico are all corrupt shitholes? Or is that racist?

I'm actually interested in why it is so systemic in that area of the world that none of these countries can get out of their own way and not suck.

If you wonder that, you are a racist. Just chalk it up to magic land and think no more.

Yeah, 936 artificially propped up the island. Everything the local government has done in response has made it worse.

All the people I served with from Puerto Rico all have 2 things in common. They have no desire to go back and they are conservative now.
