In my estimation, FA Hayek surpasses John Locke and John Stuart Mill in his contributions to classical liberal theory and philosophy.

And yet every politician you vote for supports the exact opposite of what Hayek proposed. You think McCain and Romney would offer a defense of the Austrian system? Ron Paul would, and they despised him.

Hayek would've voted for Trump over Biden

Amazing isn’t it? The OP regularly supports hardcore Keynesian economics through the Repube establishment candidates he champions. I can’t decide if HHTM is the board’s biggest ignoramus or the board’s best troll.

My money's on the latter. The irony is just too thick to be coincidence. We should all just stop giving OP any sort of attention whatsoever.

I opened this thread after reading the subject without noticing the poster. That's on me.

Anyone who pays you to "consult" them is being scammed.

You operate on feelings.

You hate a former president because of "mean tweets".

Trump did far more for people who voted for him in just four years than Reagan, H.W. & W. did in twenty years combined.

Those three brought us amnesty for illegals, a tax increase and the Iraq War.

The Constitution of Liberty is another great book of his. It’s reported that The Road to Serfdom kept FDR and his wife from going full blown socialist, even though they laid the foundation for it and tried their damndest.

Ludwig von Mises is a great author in a similar vein.

These guys laid it all out along with the folly of Keynes…but they go largely unnoticed, unfortunately.

Downvoting Hayek seems pretty silly.

I agree. Perhaps younger folks have trouble reading him due to the era and writing style. He's pre-Milton Friedman.
A reminder to all that Hayek calls the right wing 'liberals' and the left wing 'central planners.' It's actually more accurate than today's 'liberal' v. 'conservative.'

Comment on 'Fatal Conceit'

Socialism is a Fatal Conceit. Because it fools us into thinking that Altruism should be the primary motivator of all of us. But it is not, Egoism is.

This isn't to say that there is no Altruistic aspect built into our psyche, but it is selective which is what allows us to evolve.

Evolutionism is what has created all species in Body as well as Mind. After all the mind is a result of the evolutionary process. When you narrow the evolutionary options you come closer to extinction, which is exactly what Socialism tacitly brings about.

certainly is..

and considering the inherent lack of intellect of the "Central Planners" side of the equation it is clearly a misnomer as well, as "planner" would require adept abilities born of brilliance, missing in todays 'Dem/Central Planners"

OTOH I gladly accept the 'liberal' label. For freedom? Absolutely.

Good points all.
