When I found out about the CIAs involvement in the drug trade it was a real eye opener for me about Reagan and the shittiness of government in general.
The CIA has always been the way it is, it was conceived to be that way. But that attitude has infected the rest of government over the years.
It is a collosal, corrupt organism that feeds on power and riches stolen from the people it was designed to protect and serve.
The Trump presidency showed us not only how bad it is but how hard it will fight to protect itself.
Using the growth of gov corruption as a metric for the quality of a president.. there hasn't been a good president in well over 100 years. It appears that it doesn't matter who the president is. They have to be busting their arse on a daily basis to defeat the machine because the machine IS actively busting it's arse to co-opt or defeat him.
I heard a first hand account of the CIA using US Navy personnel to smuggle weapons to the Vietnamese through Laos and Cambodia in the early 50s.
Eisenhower boosted the MIC that he warned about on his way out.

Your logic pattern making such a statement is indicative of my earlier estimation of the damage done to YOUR critical thinking ability... by Reagans changes to the education system.
Emote on.

At your age, you are quite clearly still highly capable of and rational, cognizant thought, and reasonably civil, intelligent discourse. My grandfather who passed away a few years ago at 94 years young was still as mentally sharp as a razor on the day he departed.
I don't care about age. I care about mental capacity and ability. A person surely won't have the "gittup-and-go" in their 70s and 80s that they did in their 20s and 30s, but their mind can be even more acute than in their youth.
This reply may have been a "digress", but just wanted to say that I appreciate those like yourself from your generation that have watched so much change throughout the decades and yet somehow still managed to maintain your sanity. Just seeing how drastically we have fallen since I was a teen in the 90s has honestly made me almost hope for an earthly comet impact to just put us out of our misery. Things in the big picture are still "ok" in America right now, when looking at everything objectively and in the present tense, but anyone can see that the path we're on is leading us into a Venezuela-type downward spiral and our inevitable societal/economic collapse.

My first political lynchpin - 80 years ago - 6 yrs old - grandfather telling the other 'old folks' that LBJ was a murderer - a corrupt politician. My first cogent thought after Nov '63 = LBJ did it!! My thoughts about this bastard have never been anything but totally rejection. Knew he was an evil bastard for my entire conscious life.
Blacks should dig up his body and piss on it. he is the architect of their current dystopia - he lured the most ignorant of them back to the plantation and worked to increase the ignorance amongst their children. He destroyed the future for millions of blacks and laughed about it.
The destruction of the black American family is a testament to the power of leftist policies. Now add a Marxist tainted educational system coupled with a Woke and politicized mass media and here we are.

This is why... we are, where we are at...
From 1945 to 1970 (through Republicans and Democrats) the debt was flat
In the 1970's we went through several "oil shocks" that doomed the 3 POTUS unfortunate to serve during that decade.
R Nixon
R Ford
D Carter
Along came Regan who took us into massive debt instead of weathering the 80's while we recovered from the 1970's
Since then BOTH parties have taken us deeper and deeper into debt so when this balloon pops it will make the 30's look like an economic boom.
Stop blaming the other side and force your side to actually start representing the voters instead of soundbites to get elected followed by more pillaging.
We need another moderate like IKE to kick the Far Left and the Far Right in the a$$ and put them in jail but it will take the actual voters to turn off FOX and MSNBC and vote extremes on either side out of office.

Dang! You are 86? I hope I am half as coherent and intelligent as you when (if) I hit 70!

Reagan's only significant initiative was the military budget which caused the USSR to collapse as they tried to match buildup. The social spending were Dem initiatives with the support of left leaning GOP congressmen.

Worse than Biden. Biden's policies can easily be undone by the next administration. LBJ was allowed to not only destroy the black family, but to make them revere him for it.
