Birmingham didn't get any direct BP money. The State of Alabama received a settlement of about a billion dollars and spread it around where they saw fit, including some in Birmingham.

So, the fact that spending $80,000 per sea otter doesn't bother you but whether or not they were eaten by Orcas is the hard pill to swallow?

The real story is the $80,000

Nah. That's not that important, either.

For what its worth. I spent 12 years in Alaska. Most old timers I met believed a statue of Joseph Hazelwood should have been built in Anchorage. Was told by many the economy was dead until the spill happened.

The fake news WaPo and Snopes are FOS as usual. I remember the video of a bunch of school children present during the release of the animals (can't remember if they were seals/sea lions) but yeah some of them were chummed up by the Orcas while they were present. They got a dose of nature in living color. I believe he, Rush, had a clip of it on his television show in the early 90's.
Isn't it odd that you remember this video which was presumably nationally syndicated, yet there is no evidence of its existence, despite videos from the show available on YouTube?

Also isn't it odd that the seal story apparently originated in 1998, but the Rush Limbaugh television show ended in 1996?

FWIW Snopes has lost all credibility at this point.

It's clear they go out of way in their "research" to do everything they can to prop up left wing stuff and diminish anything that doesn't fit leftist ideology.

They don't flat out lie but they shade the color of truth they want.

They dismiss stuff that should be mostly true as mostly false, and vice versa.

There are numerous examples of their bias already proven.

They are just another source, like any other, and have no legitimacy.

Is it true that two oiled seals were rehabilitated at a cost of $80,000 each and upon being released into the wild were promptly eaten by a killer whale? No. This is an urban legend, as explained at Snopes.com. However, it is true that the cost to clean and rehabilitate oiled sea otters was about $80,000 per animal.

Rush claims it was true because the insurance company responsible for payment didn't want to pay for this one otter. He clarified it by saying the dispute was legally documented, but of course the left "lost" all footage of the "ceremony"

Yes, it's true. All news articles have been scrubbed about it but I found a report in a science article about it. The report was done incidental of politics.

I do remember one story about one seal that was rescued being released and promptly killed by a shark in the Seattle area.

I recall that also and not from Rush.

Certainly nothing about the Valdez is true.

I don't know exactly how those otters died.

But I am 100% certain they died, and most likely in a cruel way.
