I think there is an enormous number of people spanning republicans, democrats, and independents who lean heavily libertarian and don't even realize it.

The common perception on the left is that most successful white people owe much of their success to privilege & systematic advantages (being born on third base). Even if they are self made or grew up poor (making them think they were born on first base), they had major advantages.

Liberals are either aware of their privilege (they KNOW they were born on third base) or they are not privileged (minorities).

Like I said, it's stupid, but it would make more sense for a liberal minded person to say this about republicans than libertarians.

I would imagine most real libertarians or classical liberals had an experience early in their lives with the abuse of state power, and it left them with a bad taste.

That's how it happened for me, at least.

the stereotypical libertarian is a twenty-something neckbeard living with his mom or making 35k, living in a shitty apartment, and eating lots of tendies.

I disagree. Under the EXACT same circumstances here in the US, the black child has a slight advantage if you account for preferential minority scholarships and affirmative action policies.

I don't simply think this is true, I know it is. I've seen it first hand at every stage of my life since college.

Have you ever been to or watched the Libertarian Convention on TV? Not only are they all white. They're all male. It's really logical. Males do not feel the innate need for govt to provide for them like females do.

But wealth of libertarians is a false premise by the quote. The vast majority of Libertarians that attend the conventions are middle class. IRL I've met a LOT of libertarians and none of them were born into wealth although many did quite well on their own.

as a child i had an emotionally and physically abusive father who was a deadbeat and never paid child support while my mother struggled to support 3 kids on a teacher's salary. i suppose i was born on first after a sacrifice bunt that led to an errant throw

you completely miss the mark

libertarians want to promote accepting and living with the consequences of your actions, which hopefully leads to fewer people in the latter scenario. liberals and socialists are the people who want to normalize the latter scenario and expect those kids to perform at the rate of the former

And then you stole 2nd and 3rd. That's why you need to give them back to the community.

If it's Frank saying it, he's used as a device by the writers to illustrate how word salad said with enough conviction can wax philosophical.

Not sure why it's being linked to libertarians. But regardless of which group one wishes to deride with this aphorism, I prefer the slightly less offensive version that still gives credit to the person's abilities:
quote:

X was born into AAA ball and played up to the majors...but pretends like they were born into short-season single A ball"
