When I’m on annual leave I set up the auto reply to inform anyone emailing me that I’m out on leave with my return date.

This isn’t true. It’s a percentage based on years of service.

The reason this matters is that a significant number of people who are supposed to be working for the government are doing so little work that they are not checking their email at all!

This is what I suspected the email was intended for. Another way he could easily root these ghost employees out is to force a password reset on all employees. Also, force force employees to update some new information on their employee profile that requires them to login for an office network, not remote VPN.

I think the issue is that status reports tend to be for your direct supervisor who knows your work, not someone several echelons away from your work who is expressly just looking for convenient ways to terminate people.

This is wrong.
I get status of the people I am over. I report our status to leadership. If I need someone to help with another project, this Helps to see who has some band width. Has nothing to do with trying to fire someone. It’s about smart leadership keeping up with work going on.

They already have RTO orders. If they don't show up, they get canned. Sending this email is just for trolling the workforce and flexing his power.

jclem11,

what on earth did your post have to do with the email request?

These people have just lost it.

What if they were gored by a bull, or bitten by a black widow, are they exempt? What if there "coping" goat had to go to the vet?

Once again, lets make exceptions in life for the 1 in 1million girls who were born with a penis like growth, must have the other 334 million comply. Those days are over cowboy, we are back to being a republic governed with democratic laws.

One caveat: we won't catch all the dead/fictitious employees. Whoever set those employees accounts up (and, most likely, illegally pocketing the paycheck) will just log into the email account, make up 5 BS bullet points and hit "Send". But, we'll catch some.

If the same PC is responsible for multiple messages, regardless of who is logged in on them, it is fodder for investigation.

John Doe, Jane Hoe, Johann Schmidt, and Yanni Acropolis should not all be logging in on the same PC within a short timeframe to send emails.

I don't think they are thinking things through in their rush to get things done...

Regarding the earlier emails to retire by Feb 6, I heard that there were multiple versions/corrections/updates that altered the conditions so if an employee agreed to the first version, the stakes changed in subsequent emails.

Going to be an interesting time.

Sure… I do the same but will that fly in DOGE’s mind?
What if said employee didn’t set that up?
Just curious about the nuances, I’m not bitching.

Huge fan of DOGE and hope they trim all the fat.

Just so you know, that one in a million might be someone you really want to keep but they just can’t respond for a bit longer. It’s just a conversation fellas. Try to relax.

On one hand government employees are stupid and lazy.

On the other they are able to set up multiple fake people that require SSN numbers, bank accounts, and Ids to open those bank accounts.

Really? We have a company here with 3M employees, losing $1T every 100 days, and this email is merely looking for acknowledgement of doing ANY work at all. And your worry is the poor 100 people who may have been sick getting unfairly treated? You hiring?

I’m simply asking what happens for those situations. I’m sure it’s an easy fix but just curious.

elon musk can comb through thousands of lines of spending

but there is no code to see if people died?

Beyond their families leaving rotting corpses in their apartments… most people’s deaths have some paper or online presence.

There are Park Service Rangers on furlough due to their employment status and do not have access to email while on furlough. Wonder how that will work for those people that are supervisors and have management responsibilities but also have 4 weeks of furlough built into their employment.

There were not multiple versions of the same email and the stakes didn’t change. The only other emails were to answer questions that were posed by federal employees, one to extend the deadline due to the judges temporary hold and another saying the time to volunteer had closed.

I don’t get the angst with having to submit five bullet points as to what you did the past week. In five minutes or less, I can probably provide twice that. My only issue with the midnight Monday deadline is what if people are on leave whether annual, sick or some other form of leave?
