Yup. It served its purpose. Now it’s being corrupted.

We don’t depend on NATO assets to project power abroad.

Does it make it easier it certain aspects, sure, but we don’t depend on it.

The US sends $600M annually to NATO’s coffers, then spends another $40B + annually on NATO support and European defense efforts.

We aren’t getting near enough juice for that squeeze given we have the capability to project power anywhere we want on the planet without NATO.

No one is going to read this on your protest sign. My advice- make it simple.

For example: "BELIEVE ALL EUROPEANS"

I'm a big Elon fan but he's wrong about this. It's a messy relationship but being xenophobes is not in the best interest of the US. We have to be a key player on the world stage.

Elon needs to chill a bit and go back to blowing up rockets for a while.

Only if your goal is to be an Empire & continue subsidizing/policing the world. No thanks.

Uh, no. Your kids & grandkids wouldn't be sent off to some godforsaken land for some godforsaken skirmish. Imagine the trillions saved to re-invest American money in defense. American families would be much safer.

Iran would likely declare all out war with Isreal, knowing we can't do a goddamn thing about it anymore, the entire ME would turn to chaos.

I don't really care, Margaret.

Why does this board GAF what a deadbeat dad from South Africa thinks on American foreign policy?

Why do you retards want to give up America's position as leader of the world?

We should not leave NATO or the UN.

Absent foreign entanglements, WHY do we need to get bombers to the Middle East?

There won't be foreign entanglements, we would have no way to help. When Iran bombs isreal and the price of gas goes to $8/gallon, we won't be able to do shite about it.

The same idiot boomers will be on here complaining again.

I respectfully disagree.

Look...I hate globalization as I feel like it leads to the curb of freedoms here in the United States due to our value system being different. However, it was our failure to participate in the League of Nations (the forerunner to the UN) in the aftermath of the First World War that ultimately led to the rise of Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany. We are there as a check against authoritarian imperialism and an assurer of the status quo. Without our power and influence, bad actors can rise and lead to the risk of global conflagrations that will kill tens of millions of people.

Why do we give up being a key player by leaving NATO? I’m genuinely curious?

I think we still stay a power and in a lot of ways these countries will be working to continually garner our favor. They’ll whine and complain at first but ultimately relent to stay on Dad’s good side.

Because our position as leader of the world has been used to drain the middle class to enrich the pockets of global elites.

Keep the bases there and tax the Euros even more for it.

Germans especially. I want them working 60 hours a week and paying the most taxes for it. History has proven they can’t be trusted with an army. We need to keep them weak, poor, and far away from China.

And we stop authoritarianism by aligning with the EU’s soft totalitarianism?

“not one inch eastward” assurance about NATO expansion in his meeting with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev on February 9, 1990, was part of a cascade of assurances about Soviet security given by Western leaders to Gorbachev and other Soviet officials throughout the process of German unification

/\ THIS /\ is what is where the fault lies. We originated NATO to guard against Soviet expansion. Now NATO has tried to become a mini UN.

What the hell is TURKEY doing in a NORTH ATLANTIC alliance?

Why does NATO keep 'inching eastward' in violation of the original pact made with the USSR? Look at the nations we have admitted to NATO = regardless of how bad Putin is, you cannot disregard the impact of NATO setting up military bases on their border.

And why do we subsidize the leftward drift of the European nations? = short work weeks, censorship of free speech, disarming their population, adoption of Muslim culture, acceptance of sexual perversions ?

Shape up NATO or get the hell out.

We are becoming less and less aligned with Europe from an ideology perspective.

That’s an incorrect use of the word “We.” The correct use is that Republicans aligned with Russia are not aligned with Europe. The rest of America understands that the United States is stronger with strong allies, and Europe is stronger as a group than Russia standing alone.

No most Republican voters hate both. The problem is that binary simpleton thinkers like yourself can’t understand it’s possible to disagree with funding Ukraine and not supporting the Russian government.

Time to build up America and stop holding back to be a part of some globalist cabal.
