So we’re clear, article 5 could be invoked, but it’s not automatic, say if China were to attack the US. Do you really trust the EU leadership would vote to invoke article 5 in that scenario? I don’t.
A much, much better form of deterrence would be to bring Russia into the fold as an ally rather than an enemy — this is what they’ve wanted all along.
Instead, decades of failed leadership on both sides of the Atlantic forced an adversarial relationship with Russia.

The absolute fricking retards on this board. Retard arse boomers who can barely read. No offense, ya'll shouldn't be voting.
Leaving NATO would be a disaster, and almost CERTAINLY ensures america's continued downfall. This will be massively bad for your kids, and grandkids. This will prevent us from projecting power pretty much anywhere outside of the america's and japan.
Iran would likely declare all out war with Isreal, knowing we can't do a goddamn thing about it anymore, the entire ME would turn to chaos.

The money we give NATO is miniscule. What we've wasted in the past 30 years in the Middle East, Ukraine, and wherever else is not however.
Billions and billion of dollars isn't miniscule. It's always real easy for the government to spend taxpayers' money indiscriminately. Ideologically, the U.S. and Europe are no longer aligned. Let them support Ukraine themselves and deal with the Muslim horde on their shores, all while arresting their own people for daring to speak about their daughters getting raped by third world scum.

We are there as a check against authoritarian imperialism and an assurer of the status quo. Without our power and influence, bad actors can rise and lead to the risk of global conflagrations that will kill tens of millions of people.
We can be there as an economic trade partner to protect our interests. No need to submit to some leftist agenda driven money grab just to get a seat at that table. America will always weild a big stick regardless.

All I know is I don’t like the Euros attitudes toward us, their wokeness, lack of respect and their unwillingness to accept accountability for their own security. We have backstopped them for eighty (80) years and all they do is directly or indirectly shite on the US.

Funny watching Elon now say things that so many others have been saying for so long and people act like it's a new revelation.

Explain this specifically.

Nope. Pure isolationism isn’t in our best interest. We need to be direct with our positions

The UN has turned into a political extortion tool for enriching the coffers of smaller countries.
NATO exists solely for the protection of Europe from Russia. Yet, for some reason, those very same European countries have decided to not contribute to their own security and instead hide behind us. Use us and mock us. frick them.

We use it logistically for almost everything outside our continent. We would lose all of it. How you think we get b2 bombers and f22s to the middle east?

Absent foreign entanglements, WHY do we need to get bombers to the Middle East?

All of this
Sometimes I read the stuff these old bitter guys post and it just shocks me.

Exactly! All NATO members are required to commit 3% of GDP toward national defense. Very few do. They sit back and let us carry the massive load, while free to throw their citizen's money at social programs and leftist ideology.
Well reduce the money we contribute, cite their lack of meeting the standards of regulation and put the pressure on them to pony up.
You don't just abandon it because it's not perfectly how you want it.

It served a much needed purpose in the post WWII Cold War era.
That era has passed and the alliance has since morphed into purposes that no longer serve the best interests of America or American citizens.

I agree 100% with this. As of right now Russia is a foe but, as history has shown us, we can bring them into an alliance with western Europe. Nixon actually was very prescient after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early-90s. He argued that we should court them and establish friendly relations with them or else they could become a problem further on down the line:

Hard to tell but I think you’re right. We are getting taken advantage of. So far it’s mainly by money and forgoing our own prosperity as a nation.
Pretty soon it may be the blood of our youth. The damage that Vietnam caused this country is still felt today and that was a dumbass choice by our own government. Yall don’t think it will cut deeper when it’s some other country costing the lives and mental capacity of our youth?
Call me ignorant but I believe we can still carry a big stick outside of NATO.
