Is the benefit of the blue check just that you are less likely to be some sort of troll or alter? Are other users somehow presumed to give one greater credence?
The original idea behind the blue check mark was to protect famous people from having their "twitter identity" stolen. Anyone could set up an account handle of TheRealShaq and put up a picture of Shaq. How does the general population at large know that Shaq's actual twitter handle is TheRealShaq vs just Shaq? Twitter established certain guidelines of who could apply for the check mark. Obviously Shaq's identity is important, and mine isn't. Where that level of importance falls is up for debate.
The idea that "my opinion holds greater weight than that of others because I have a blue check" is obvious by their reaction. The truth is that the blue check means nothing. Biden has a blue check, but does anyone really think he is operating his own account?

You can continue to post on Twitter for free without a blue check mark.

Originally, it was not so much “my views are worth more” as it was “that OTHER nonsense is not from me?”
That makes sense. Thx

Again, I know what it represents, but I do not use the platform, so I do not know what the tangible benefit may be.
You can believe that or not, as you choose. If not, perhaps someone else will be polite enough to give me a primer.
Blue check is SUPPOSED to just mean that you are verified as the real person your Twitter account says you are.
Like @POTUS is current POTUS, @Mathieu_Era is really Tyrann Mathieu, etc...
Progs, morphed the meaning into a "your views are acceptable" title... separating (in their warped, demented minds) fake news people from real news people.

Twitter's leadership fostered that environment. Even a Libertarian such as yourself can see that right?

A case can be made for denied.
I sought one and was denied. My profile was heavy pro-LEO because the work I do is in that arena.
There was zero reason to deny me. None.

Basically the benefit is that if you see an AOC tweet with the check mark it’s verified as her account. If it’s AOC with no check mark it could be a troll account or someone else using a similar account. Trying to make people thinking’s better. That’s all. It doesn’t actually carry any value.

The “blue check” was traditionally for the people who were just so much superior. Their opinions matter more than yours. They were smarter… better… and pure. They said something… you were supposed to listen. They had a decree to pass to the peasantry. The blue check was the Twitter Rolex. The Twitter flawless diamond necklace. The Twitter fine wine and French cuisine.
That is what the “blue check” devolved into. The original meaning was that you proved you were who you actually were.
Now the betters of Twitter. The powerful.. the people that actually count… are griping about the 8 dollars a month.
