quote:

Tech billionaire Elon Musk said Wednesday that his budget-cutting effort on behalf of President-elect Donald Trump would most likely not find $2 trillion in savings, backtracking on a goal he set earlier as co-head of a new advisory body, the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.

Musk told political strategist Mark Penn in an interview broadcast on X that the $2 trillion figure was a “best-case outcome” and that he thought there was only a “good shot” at cutting half that.

quote:

That figure was quickly dismissed as implausible by budget experts, who said the entire discretionary budget was only $1.7 trillion.

Tigerdroppings political experts said the same thing as well

Oh well then, never mind.

Let’s just keep running $2 trillion deficits every year.

Not legally, but let's assume we can. Wont' come close to $2T. Probably won't come close to $1T.

A chart from the thread linked in OP (posted numerous times in other DOGE-celebratory threads)

2TRILLION?

That's the LEAST surprising news I have heard all day.

Not many intelligent people can comprehend how much 2 trillion dollars is, much less the average moron American that can't do basic math.

Abolish ATF, Dept of Ed, IRS, stop sending money to people that hate us.

How much is that? It’s a good start

Cutting spending is now the "RINO" position and MAGA wants to remove the debt ceiling. Just FWIW

Why hasn't SFP found $2 billion in budget cuts?

Even if you post literal graphs showing the math doesn't work, they will still prefer "media" on Twitter/X telling them what they want to hear.

Not find, do. Cut the pork. Prorate the balance of the cut to $2T across the board. Make the departments figure it out.

It really doesn't matter when the government has the legal right to just print.

I could find trillions in cuts. People just wouldn't like it.

That's why "populism" has become so popular on the right and fiscal conservatism has gone to the wayside.

SDV is the only MAGA supporters who has avoided hypocrisy on this issue over the years.

Agree with that statement, but I think the overall sentiment of millions of tax paying citizens such as myself is that we would like to see a start SOMEWHERE cutting the stupid shite that we pay for out. I don't care if the first cuts are just 10M dollars. Just fricking do something and quit spending money on useless people and studies on gay monkeys in Albania.

I did not say anything about Trump and I already said you're the only non-hypocrite in this policy area from this board.

You have been the only one who never pretended MAGA was a small government/spending political philosophy

Anyone with a brain knew this, unfortunately elections require people to talk in hyperbole. That being said, not a fan of the amount of backtracking happening before the inauguration begins.
