The Families USA conference is frequently the site of important policy announcements by likely presidential contenders. Then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) used his 2007 speech to the group to present his vision for universal health care.

She doesnt have a solution. This much is clear. But we do have a real problem that private industry cant handle.

Today I learned insurance companies print money that they are kind enough to share some of.

I trust private industry to operate the economy a hell of a lot more than I trust the federal government to.

Gov can't solve it either. At some point people have to choose to be more healthy. Private can't force people to hit the gym. Gov can try and fail as usual.

How do you hold health insurance accountable? What does that even mean? Health insurance is a business industry, so of course they’re going to try and make as much money as they can. If I’m not pleased with my costs, I just choose a different provider.

Here's something to consider....

My wife has bad allergies and needed to get allergy shots. She got the exact code from the doctor and called our insurance to get the cost. She gave them the code and they told her it would be $20. My wife wanted to make sure and called later in the week. My wife gave the code again and was told this time that it would be completely free. So my wife goes to the doctor and starts her shots. We get a bill from the insurance company a month later for $2,000.

I'm no Elizabeth Warren fan by ANY stretch, but I agree with her about holding insurance companies more accountable.

Insurance companies are nothing more than bookies. Except when they lose they get to decide how much they are actually going to pay out.

The concept of insurance is great but when you have to fight the company, which you pay for that right, only to get $.60 on the dollar when you actually need the service is total BS.

Insurance, IMO, along with lawyers are the primary reasons for the high cost of medical services.

As with most things there is a balance. Im an engineer not a healthcare expert... But if we put the smartest Americans in the room... Private and public... You really dont think we could do better than we are now?

Insurance companies base their rates on level of risk. A house right on the beach is a lot more expensive to insure than the same house 200 miles inland because there’s a much higher risk on the coast. A person who’s morbidly obese and has lifelong health issues because of their poor diet and laziness shouldn’t have the same health insurance rate as someone who takes care of their body and has no major health problems. The government can’t force private insurers to subsidize everyone’s poor health choices

No. Because you can't force ignorant people to be smart much less be responsible for their own health.

Elizabeth Warren shouldn't be in that room.
If not for lying about her heritage she'd be working divorce cases in Boston.
