We street level idiots knew several years ago the nationwide electrical grid is woefully underdeveloped to handle millions of EVs …hooked up pulling the additional load required to charge these vehicles. It’s very disheartening and infuriating to know we have very dumb people controlling our economy and in many ways our lives.
Which bad US Representative forced you to buy an EV?

A reactor at the end of its life being hit by a once in a lifetime event (major tsunami) shouldn’t be seen in the same class as something like Chernobyl where the entire reactor design was flawed from the get go.

Darn that private sector.
What?

I think moron is taking the example I did of “government pays for education of people who can’t find jobs” and is blaming private industry for not hiring people overtrained in worthless areas.

What they really want is all public transportation. Fact.

A location of Tesla rapid chargers can use as much power as 15 homes if all are operational at one time.

Targeted by whom - Elon Musk. Did you read your own post? Holy farts - some of you are so full of hate you can't think.

Practical answer is to produce electricity at the source of it's use and no need for a grid. That means solar panels and wind turbines on your house/property to generate your own electricity to power your house/EV and provide for your own electrical needs
Part of me believes the tech is available today to do this at a reasonable cost. The other part of me thinks the electric companies that have spent trillions on a failing grid will never let that tech see the light of day or they will be bankrupt.
It would actually be very American to have the rugged independence to produce your own and take care of your own with no need for others.

In Louisiana, a 7KW fixed solar panel system will average about 850KWH per month. For most, to have a system that offsets all of your monthly usage, they would need a 15-20KW system.
Output ranges higher elsewhere or if you install them on passive tracking systems.

during a heat wave to help avoid blackouts and overloading the state’s failing power grid.
The alert comes as the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) called on residents to conserve energy. They have asked the state’s residents to refrain from using electricity from appliances and more to stop the grid from being pushed to near-emergency conditions.
“A heat wave is expected to impact the grid in Texas over the next few days. The grid operator recommends to avoid charging during peak hours between 3 pm and 8 pm, if possible, to help statewide efforts to manage demand”, an in-car alert sent to Tesla owners reads
There is a connection between these two quotes.

This administration's transportation policies are designed to make it as difficult as possible for regular people to travel.

The PV is pretty reasonable if you have favorable irradiance. The storage gets a little pricey. We run a 40kW PV with 4 PowerWall2 setup at the ranch and its completely off-grid capable.

What pisses you technological handwringers more? Musk's comments or ERCOT asking people to raise their thermostats?
Posted on 7/14/22 at 9:38 am to Jjdoc
I would charge mine during peak demand just to help overload the grid.

They want us riding bikes and taking public transportation run by electric subways/trains.
They don't want us driving cars.

We could upgrade our electrical grid
This has been one of Beto's key talking points, and thanks to this unusually torrid summer in Texas, it's gaining traction.
Either upgrade the existing system, or connect to the national grid. There's no accepting the woeful status quo.

Next the government will setup giant gas powered fans to create wind for the wind turbines

ERCOT asking people to raise their thermostats
This is the responsible thing to do, but compliance has been woefully inadequate. I know everyone hates to word "mandate", but given the unreal heat Texas has experienced for the past two months, that will become the order of the day.

Stop building wind farms and build more natural gas generation facilities.
