OK I get it, but what would you say if getting 50% +1 was impossible in a one shot election?
I’d say that the election didn’t produce a candidate with majority support in their constituency.

should that mean, that the slow part of the population gets a chance to change everything in a second round?
You’re stuck in an American two-party duopoly mindset and if you don’t understand that, there’s no use discussing elections in nations that don’t share our exact electoral framework.
French politics is nothing like ours.

The crazy thing here, is that other than LePen's stance on immigration, she like her father are basically center left from an American perspective
Yep.
And then there is this;

"The tide is rising, but it didn't rise quite high enough this time," said Le Pen, who is likely to mount her fourth presidential campaign in 2027. "Our victory has merely been delayed."
Three time loser tells me a change at the top would be beneficial.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Bardella was the candidate come 2027. They’re going to have to do something to win over more of Les Republicains’ base and win over some from Macron’s party to have a chance. Otherwise, they’ll hit the same 30-40% vote ceiling that they have been banging against since 2012

If tweet fails to load, click here. We’re in for dark times, my friend. We can’t discount the Dems being capable of this, although at least we have 51 elections as a security in this.

Would you be unable to be convinced of the results if your preferred group would have won?

Is that supposed to mean anything?
Add in Ensemble’s votes and then redo the math. RN got less than 40% of the vote in the second round.

Sounds like this guy favors a popular vote system. Should we switch to the popular vote in the US? I’m sure “End Wokeness” would be on board for that right?

Capable of what, exactly?
Forming a coalition with another party to block republicans from winning a two round parliamentary election?
I actually don’t think the Democrats are capable of that, to be honest.

By educating people on how Parliamentary systems work?

The thing he hates more than anything is the thought that the conservatives on this board might be right about literally one single thing that they're (we're) pissed about.

Not at all. Just refuting the notion than the RN losing the election meaning it was “stolen”.
The actual result isn’t anywhere near that interesting.

What a very odd thread for this melt

Well unlike France which has centralized voting, the US fortunately does not. It’s a feature and not a bug, but I’m nervous about it in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Pennsylvania. That’s enough to win Joe or whoever the Democrats nominate the election.
