I was very concerned that losing the personal exemptions would really hurt us this year. Came out just fine. Lower taxes and more $$$ on each paycheck, but the return itself was my concern. Thought I might be the bug, but it turned out that we were the windshield. Thank you, President Trump!

Finished entering my forms last night. Looks like i might be the bug. I didn’t file so I could look more closely today, but right off the bat I see 16000 deduction I got last year that was eliminated this year with the new law.

Pretty much the same here. State taxes however are a different story. frick JBE and his honor code!!! Louisiana is turning into a cesspool thanks to shitty progressive tax mentality. Went from getting a nice state return to having to pay in a lot.

How does a post like this receive a downvote?

Liberals are pathetic, mad because someone saved money on taxes.

I finished ours over the weekend, had to pay in around $1,100. Considering the reasons why we had to pay in I'm surprised it wasn't more.

Yup, all my business mileage is gone along with expenses. My (total) tax bill went up instead of down.

I don’t recall, but I’m pretty sure I itemized last year so I don’t think it was that.

I’ll look later when I have time and respond here.

My take.

Taxes easier and quicker to do.
Paid less overall.
Less return at the end but got larger percentage of pay every week.
Probably got a larger percentage of state tax back.

Still got a decent return (I know I know 0% interest loan to the gov) but saw an overall effective tax rate decrease of 4.5%

Even my state tax burden went down 0.2%

Try to get your employer to reimburse your business expenses. If not possible, as long as they are legitimate business expenses, see if they we reduce your pay for those expenses. That way you would pay less in taxes. The elimination of unreimbursed employee business expenses hurt taxpayers who claimed it in the past but with a little planning it can be less painful. Not all employers are flexible though. Good luck

We normally pay about 2K with 0 exemptions claimed by me or the Mrs.

We were relocated last year from Il back to Texas. The loss of the personal exemption hurt because we never took the standard deduction and some SALT tax write offs were capped.

We are paying $8600.00 this year. It would have been worse under the old law but not by much. The relo benefits were paid after being grossed up for taxes but put us in 1% land and we were totally . Those who say the 1% don't pay taxes are just plain stupid!

Good for you. Now more children are starving to death and people are dying in the streets.

Yes, as long as you don’t live in one those greedy high tax states, you will be fine.

If I did live in one those greedy high tax states I would want to vote out whatever political party that has been in control there. Very greedy, low IQ individuals run those states.

I need to monkey with my withholding to make sure we come as close to breaking even as possible next year. I made more in 2018 than ever before, but thankfully the $24k standard deduction brought me down to the 12% bracket, although barely. If all goes well in 2019, I'll definitely be above that, up in the next one.

I've always had the option of being on expense account or paying my way and deducting. I'll be on their nickel now and for the mileage I'm just going to eat that.
