Um... the solution to any problem anywhere NEVER EVER EVER starts with the word "socialized". "Socialized" anything is NEVER the answer.

How about being a free country with less government control? Why should government limit ads for a legal product?

I'm all about less govt, and less govt control.
But the job of the govt is to protect people. Not protect big companies. That's gotten twisted around where the govt protects big companies, from people.
It needs to be set right. This is just one small step in setting it right.

If that product is so deeply ingrained into politics as big pharma is, then yes, there should be limits.

Big pharma is a perfect example of a corporatocracy. They pay and influence the media and the government more than almost any other private entity.

You can't buy them over the counter like cigarettes. And, nobody who doesn't have ulcerative colitis is popping into their primary care doc and asking for that med. The ads are just made to get annoying patients with the particular condition to make demands of their docs. I'd bet 90% of doctors would prefer to see med advertising stopped.

You're not wrong. And that's a great point.
But you can buy ibuprofen off the shelf, which can destroy organs, and increase chances of strokes. Too much aspirin can harm your stomach. Both of which has adverts all over the place.
But let's also look at how many millions these companies dump into advertising. Money that allows them to threaten channels with pulling that money, if said channel starts leaning the wrong way politically. Or doesn't lean a certain way politically.
Just an example... Elon Musk saying GFY to those same advertisers.

Good ole progressive consumer protection.

What's the alternative? The free market? Let's do a thought exercise about how life would be without consumer protection.

Lead was removed from gasoline due to consumer protection. Without that protection, companies would still make leaded gasoline because it's cheaper and creates more profits. Millions of people were already sick and dead when leaded gas was banned. This means millions of more dead people than we already have. For someone who constantly talks about needing immigration due to low birth rates, you should be able to see how this would be problematic.

Even if a company decided to make use of the free market and create unleaded, my use of that gas would not limit my exposure when leaded gas is still used due to how air works. We all get to live sick and die early so a handful of corporations can make money. Hooray for the free market!

No they don't, but it convinces people that they're sick... WTF was restless leg syndrome before people saw it advertised.

Restless leg syndrome is often caused by antidepressants (often those with black box warning labels reading “may lead to thoughts of suicide.”)

So they came up with scripts for restless leg syndrome. I die laughing every time I hear the commercials for these prescriptions, because they ALL warn that these drugs may lead to “increased thoughts of suicide.”

So the depressed person takes antidepressants that may lead to increased thoughts of suicide, then gets restless leg syndrome, then starts taking meds for restless leg syndrome that also may lead to increases thoughts of suicide.

I think the issue is that even though they are a legal product, it's not legal for the consumer to just go to the store/pharmacy and buy it. They can only obtain the product with a doctor's prescription. Thus, the advertisement should be irrelevant and really more in the nature of "go ask your doctor if he will give you this prescription."

The sad thing is many of these drugs were created first (by accident through failed clinical trials for other ailments), then conditions were "created" by pharmaceutical companies to encourage you to buy the medicine you probably otherwise didn't need.

Side note, what in the hell are they putting in medicine that somehow can specifically target your taint? There do not seem to be rare and serious infections of your arms, feet, ears, etc. Just the 1-2 cm area between the a-hole and nutsack/growler. That can't be just an accident, right?

Government is the only thing keeping you from death?

We have enough consumer protections for people make better choices. Let me ask you this. Would you rather people make informed choices or just trust government?

True. They very often show that big puffy tail, like a middle finger, as they prance off egotistically, if they hear the click!

And then they plan to wait and ambush you when you leave, and just completely ruin your car.

That's ^^^^ why you never saw Big Pharma ads 20-30 years ago. Today the US is a full fledge Corporatocracy, big corporations buy legacy Media advertisements to disseminate their corporate propaganda.

This is true. It's an issue with the litigation system. There's a lot of issues there, that don't favor the people in that scenario.
Ok, not to open the whole "jab" can of worms... Let's avoid that. But some pharma, like for example... Pfizer, have enjoyed gov granted civil immunity. Even before COVID.
I may not be remembering it properly, but I remember a case where one of their meds had a huge detrimental effect on a large group of children. And the parents couldn't sue because of civil immunity.

RLS is also connected with insomnia. Insomnia can be tied to as a cause of, or as a result of, depression.
And some of those insomnia meds have similar warnings about causing anxiety, depression, and the rest.

Here's another kicker. "Trans care saves lives!". By putting them on depression meds, that have the warnings we are talking about.
