No, Republicans have played this perfectly. The Democrats WANT the Republicans to “call their bluff” because then they can claim they are trying to ram it through and don’t care about the victim.
Republicans have had the perfect balance of remaining cordial and accommodating to the “victim” while also not letting things get delayed too much.
It’s a PR battle, and the Republicans have been perfect so far.

Actually I think this extension has another reason then those already stated. If Chuck said, "Screw it we vote Monday", then the MSM would be screaming at the sky all weekend. Now if the deadline is extended (even to Sunday) then the time for them to scream is limited. Chuck could say 10pm Sunday, and if no contact has been made vote Monday. Plus the Repubs look like they bent way over backwards to accommodate.
