I say suppressor 99% of the time

But in NFA circles silencer is used without rebuke all the time in my experience. There are a bunch of things like that in the gun community, interestingly. A gun shop dork may rebuke you for it, but a group of NFA enthusiasts probably won't.

but that is the legal definition.

Silencer, suppressor and muffler are all interchangeable terms as far as the legal definition goes according to the government.

Just abolish AFT and the NFA.

I should be able to travel with a suppressed SBR, and it's none of their fricking business.

I really wish that they'd stop calling them silencers, it makes people think that there's no noise.

Blame Maxim, he was the one who patented the first one as a "silencer". "Suppressor" is really far more accurate as even the best ones lower the sound to maybe ~100db.

For those unfamiliar, using a suppressor/silencer reduces the sound, at best, to the level of a hammer striking a nail. The quiet "phewp" you see/hear on movies and tv is utter bullshite as the sound primarily comes from the bullet breaking the sound barrier (what suppressors/silencers do is dampen the sound of the expanding gasses after ignition).

Free the mufflers and remove the length requirements on shotguns and rifles.

Who's Maxim? Seems to me like "silencer" has been sort of in the general lexicon for as long as I can remember.

well the legal definition of suppressor is silencer.

It’s a muffler. Nothing more nothing less.

Shortly after they remove federal tax and registration on silencers, I’ll own a few.

Other than the long fuel filter and barrel adapter I have.

You can make an argument for the regulation of machine guns and destructive devices (although I wouldn't agree with it), but the regulation of Suppressors and SBRs is retarded.

I would make the reverse argument that constitutionally you have the right to possess machine guns and destructive devices.

You can get pretty quiet with certain calibers and subs, but for sure, any 5.56 gun with a 5.56 can is still pretty damn loud. These things (cans) should be available over the counter. It’s insane the hoops you have to jump through for a glorified gun muffler.

I have it on good authority that silencers can give a common bullet the ability to penetrate a plate and concrete...

You're basically turning a standard AR-15 into a rapid fire RPG.

Just bought my first suppressor. Banish Backcountry through silencer central. From start to finish the process took 1.5 months. I was told it could take up to a year. I was very surprised. And I live in CO which is tightening gun restrictions. Maybe this is a good sign for what’s to come.

Consider yourself lucky. Think the last one I bought was around 6 years ago or so. Took 18 months start to finish. Ridiculous.

Machine guns should be legal. Full auto is so out of control if you had ill intent for a mass shooting a semi auto or a shotgun is far more accurate. Ever shot a machine gun? Hold that trigger down and the gun walks up on you, and then you run out of ammo. Sure you can go with a large gun on a tripod that’s belt fed, but good luck sneaking that in anywhere.

Explosives should require a permit and training simply because mishandling with no ill intent can be disastrous. But you shouldn’t need a permit for each explosive device, just complete training and certification and you can buy explosives as long as your permit is valid

I don't disagree. That's why I said that I wouldn't agree with the argument.
