re: Does world calamity hang in the balance if the SOH is closed?

100% lock Iran can bring the global economy to its knees by closing the SOH and keeping it closed. The world economy depends on the free flow of oil and Iran, in its current state, is able to interrupt this free flow fully enough and long enough to bring the global economy to its knees.
It is crazy what they want you to believe and how they manage it for profits.

If so, wouldn’t the U.S. be doing the entire world a giant favor by ripping Iran to shreds with nuclear weapons?
The American people are steadfast against boots on the ground so if the world needs total Iranian capitulation to save it, this seems a logical option.

Drones can destroy pipelines and pumping stations too.
I'd imagine that we could figure out a way to protect them for less than 300 Billion. And even if not, that kind of repeated incitement would cause the gloves to fully come off (ground invasion) especially if the world was truly at its knees

We depend on the global economy. If it fails, our economy fails.

Iran would hit every refinery in the Gulf. And the world world collapse.

Correct
That's not something the US could withstand, no matter how much chest thumping we see

Only if we do something like start a war with them

Ttrump is doing a good job of keeping the oil markets are bay with the "deal is just around the corner" talk. Kudos to him for that. But, we are still short on oil and the SOH traffic is way down compared to before the war. When the USA and China oil reserves run dry, it may be a Covid-like market response.

Nobody makes more in a barrel of oil than government. If we let it ho yo $200 and cut the government out of its take, energy prices would plummet.
The government, as always, is the major culprit in high prices.

A lot of the heavy lifting here has been done by China.
I'm not shocked that after meeting with Xi Trump got a MOU signed quickly

Oil is a global commodity
The issue/crisis isn't how much petro costs in the US.

Question, which country collapses first - USA or China?
Posted on 6/21/26 at 12:47 pm to SlowFlowPro
We made it through the 1929 depression because many people lived on farms in rural areas. Most people now live in towns/cities and are not self sufficient. Watch that old Henry fonda movie The grapes of wrath to see how bad it got back then. It will be calamity here.

Without modern technology and petro products/byproducts, rural living isn't sustainable anymore, either...not for our population levels.

Exactly
This weird alternate reality where China, Japan, SK, and the EU can collapse economically and the US just keeps on chugging seems like some version of a drug-induced hallucination.

Short term? Prolly for most countries. They would have to go through some pain and suffering, Readjusting their economies,
The US would have to do some readjusting, but it would probably take a good two years.
The US is one of the very few countries in the history of the world that can be self-sustaining. We could produce our own food, our own medicines, our energy, our own raw materials for manufacturing...
DJT has been slowing moving the US from foreign reliance on many of our vital needs.

if it does get bad here. I just hope the American people are as generous to others as they are now.

The major drivers of our economy for the pats 10+ years have been petro and tech, and this would devastate both
