Take the time that you spend on games and apply that time to learning a new skill. Then find a better job.

The cost isn't in the skill, but the certs. Even if you have the skill, they won't hire you without the certs. Your resume just gets auto discarded in the trash by an AI. The certs cost hundreds of dollars, often thousands, and months if not years of time for jobs that you would never believe would require any training at all. They actually don't require any training if you're an H1B or an illegal immigrant, but if you're an American, you're not getting hired without the cert.

If you are only making $70k then you pissed away your time in college. And why are you buying a $450k house? No wonder you can’t afford anything. I’m in Metairie. Around West Esplanade and Transcontinental there are houses for $250k. Not what you like? Tough shite.

And $55k for a car? You are buying a brand new car? I didn’t when I was starting a family. I bought used cars. The equivalent ones might cost $10k now. I drove them for five years or so then junked them.

But there is the problem. You want a lifestyle that is way better than the ones we had when we were young. Okay. Good luck.

Understand. Problem I see is that my 2 step daughters NEVER have the money, energy or time to do the things they NEED to do, but the ALWAYS have the money, energy and time to do the things they WANT to do.

Sounds like a good investment opportunity for you to me.

Generation Alpha will blame Millennials, the next generation will blame Gen Z

People prefer to blame others than figure out how to make it.

How about blaming this on the university system that never saw a tuition hike they didn't want. I can't understand why politicians aren't going after the university systems.

Those 600,000 Chinese students? Yeah, their purpose is to keep tuition high and the university system profitable.

totally off base. The average age of a first time home buyer is 40 because the median price of a home is $450k while the median income is $70k.

It takes people 15 years to save and position themselves economically to afford a home these days.
Which of course raises the obvious question .... Where was that buyer 7-10yrs ago when loan rates were at record lows, yet housing remained a buyer's market? There were a litany of contemporary pieces written on that specific issue.

But you are right about the current state of things. Currently the market is very challenging. Home prices are bubbly. Rates are too high.

If so, then he gets a heartfelt apology from me. I'm not very good at picking up the sarcasm sometimes.

Like it or not, these are the median prices and income from across the country. The middle class (those earning $70k) can no longer afford the middle class lifestyle

That’s quite an analysis when you have the first time home buyers buying average priced houses. How about buying cheap houses like I did when I got started? My first child was months away from being born. The house was in a shitty school district, and I had to finish the construction of the house before we could live in it. By the time my kids were school age I could afford an inexpensive private school. But that’s because we…
- took no vacations
- seldom dined out
- did not pay anyone to do anything we could do
- did odd jobs for pay after work hours
- drove old beaters

lol wow. You love boomers I see. I am one and am 64 retired over 10 years. Give away most spare income to charities who spend over 90% on the cause. I look at young folks out there now who still live at home. I was out at 18. I know this Penrod must have a pin rod lol

You can't buy a 1200 square foot shithole in the ghetto when you are 40 years old with 2 kids in elementary/middle school and a wife. That may have been an option at 24 years old but with the average age of the first time homebuyer being 40, they need a place with room for children and good schools

In any major city, that 1200 square foot house in the ghetto still costs $350k and would be a stretch for most to afford without equity from previous ownership. A decent 2200 square foot house in a good area is $500k+ in most cities.

Don't get me wrong, I think there should be term limits. But if a 90 year old "dreaded boomer" is still in office, how'd they get to stay? People voted for them, right? Likely the same ones that are here complaining about boomers.

I'll turn 60 in 2026. Many times I pretended my late father was stupid and tried to prove him wrong. He always turned out to be right, because he had more life experiences than me. Young people think know everything and have all the answers, but they don't. Time will force them to see that.

Boomers are still the biggest generational cohort and will be for a long time
