Do you vote for the same political party that your parents did growing up?

I personally do not and never have. Family (included extended) always leaned pretty hardcore Republican, but by the time I was in high school I realized that wasn’t going to be me.

Posted on OT rather than Poli board because I’m not interested to see a Republican/Democrat debate, just interested to see how much family influences future generations.

Nope - grandparents were democrats, parents republican, I think it's all a waste of time and the media blows it all out of proportion to keep simpletons watching because outrage = money for them.

Nope, parents were Democrats at a time when practically the entire South was Democrats.

Yes.

I used to just because that's how they voted. As I've gotten older I've realized how I'm different in my political opinions and have since left that party. However for the most part I still vote along those lines.

If I have a decent 3rd party choice, I am more inclined to vote that way because I despise all political parties these days.

Pretty certain my parents have never voted for anything other than Republican.

I’ve voted Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, and Independent, with Republican being the majority, but probably by not that much.

I vote for a candidate, not a party. But I frequently vote for candidates of a different party than they voted for because that party seems to have changed its core beliefs since then.

My parents hardly ever voted. It was the Edward's era, no matter how they would have voted, they felt the elections were rigged.

My dad voted for Perot and I voted De La Fuenta, so I guess so. Both his vote and my vote were kind of protest votes against the two main candidates.

My father's family was always hardcore Republican, even back when the Democrats ruled the South. My grandfather's first presidential election that he could vote in was 1940, and he voted for Wendell Willkie. He didn't like Roosevelt, tolerated Truman, and thought Eisenhower and Reagan were the bees knees. And my God, did that man hate Bill Clinton! He passed away in 2001, so he never had to witness the rise of Hilldawg. His head would explode if he saw the current crop of Democrats. As far as I know my old man always voted Republican.

There was a brief time when I was a little left and voted Democrat here and there, but that didn't last long. I'm a real fan of Churchill's adage that if you aren't liberal when you're 20, you have no heart and if you're not conservative when you're 40, you have no brain.

Parents, yes. I know that now, but my mom and dad never told me who they voted for in elections because they viewed that as a personal and private choice. It was later in life I learned they voted conservative like I do.

My grandparents were hard core southern democrats though. At least they were until Obama. Their dislike for the black people over-rode the political party lines.
