re: Do you think Biden's accelerated decline caught the Dems by surprise?

Dragging Biden across the finish line in 2020 gave Dems a false security they could get through one more election.
But he deteriorated to the point they couldn't hide it. They were likely hoping to drug cocktail him/glide through 4 more months.
Now they are in scramble mode and Republicans will no doubt throw them a lifeline somehow.

Absolutely not. They know, and they lied.
They knew in 2020 too.

Do you think Biden's accelerated decline caught the Dems by surprise?
Take Trump and Pence. I know we all loathe him now, but had anything happened to Trump in his first term, nobody doubted Mike Pence would be competent. He lacked charisma, but you didn't think he would be a complete disaster.
In comparison, Harris was put on the ticket to pander, but NOBODY wants her anywhere near the Oval Office. Even Dems don't. People are hesitant to demand Biden be ruled incompetent, because they fear the shitshow that she would bring.

My view is that they never thought the debates would ever happen, so there was no need to argue about the approach or format. Why worry about running Joe out there if they were guaranteed they would never happen.
They thought the lawfare would force Trump to either drop out or provide them a “reason” to refuse the debate.
Once that didn’t happen, they were stuck. They didn’t think about how bad Joe was going to look on the split screen in comparison to Trump or how bad his decline would look if Trump was forced to not be argumentative with the silenced mics.

They literally came out and said he isn't competent to stand trial. They have KNOWN!

If that were the case, Biden wouldn’t have asked for the debate, especially before the convention. This was a litmus test and he failed so now the DNC will push him aside like they have pushed aside so many others in attempt to select a candidate regardless of the will of the people. Same thing happened to Bernie, same thing is happening to RFK right now. If RFK could actually be controlled he would be the obvious choice.

Absolutely not.
They knew 4 years ago when they used Covid as an excuse to keep him off the campaign trail.

For the brain dead Dem minions getting their news from the networks, CNN, and MSNBC, yes.

In their view, Biden's decline is an asset, not a liability. They can offload him anytime they desire. What they cannot do is allow Trump to become POTUS again. Biden's condition is just a means to that end now.
I'm not sure who "they" are other than I suspect Obama is a member.

They honestly believed he was going to pull a debate performance out of his arse like he did in2020, but that was 4 years ago. There are so many instances of him bumbling at the mouth it’s still a massive blunder to have thought he should have debated DJT. I’m glad he did but his handlers knew what was going to happen

History doesn't repeat itself but it often rhymes. 100 years later and not much has changed:
quote:
Toward the end of this tour, Wilson suffered his famous cerebral thrombosis that left him a mental and physical cripple. His wife, Edith, browbeat Wilson's physician, Admiral Cary Grayson, into lying about the president's condition.
The First Lady claimed the country's top neurologist said it was vital to keep Wilson on the job to stimulate a swift, presumably full recovery. It took sixty years for the doctor's papers to surface. He actually said the president's recovery would never be more than minimal.
At the height of the furor over Wilson's ability to function as president, Edith sponsored a newspaper fraud that makes the recent uproar at the New York Times seem trivial. She invited the New York World's White House reporter, Louis Siebold, to be the first newsman to interview the president after his supposed recovery.
Edith persuaded Siebold to lie about almost every aspect of the president's condition, from his sixty second attention span to his illegible signature, which Siebold praised as" copperplate." Siebold talked about running a footrace with the invalid, whose entire left side remained paralyzed. For a final ironic touch, the newsman won a Pulitzer prize for this travesty of objective journalism.

Absolutely not, especially those within the White House.
We'd like to think we are more advanced than our Medieval predecessors, but this is no different than a dying King. Those at court know that their place in the social hierarchy is directly tied to the King. In the absence of the King, they are back to begging for a seat at the table in the power struggle that will follow his demise.
Biden is for political purposes a "dead man walking". Those around him are simply trying to keep him upright as long as possible, or at least until they secure their position with whomever the new King will be.

It didn't catch them by surprise. It's been obvious since 2020 that Joe has the intellectual capacity of a turnip.
