we can both cherry pick metrics and try to make some subjective points. generally speaking China is in decline, has been for some time, and continues to spiral. at some point on the future, they could hit another watershed moment where they teeter on immediate collapse, but that's not where the are now. they are landing a damaged plane, but its no longer a crash landing.
in 2019, we imposed heavy tariffs, shrunk their manufacturing output, and leveraged the IMF to take away their ability to manipulate currency as the general health of their economy lagged. Their GDP growth tanked historically just as covid was released. covid literally saved their manufacturing pmi, largly through their dominance in the ppe space. this isnt debatable. even rags like the NYT documented this.

So you figure china didn’t see an immediate and profound benefit from deleting millions of old people with their super virus just because some more people got a little older over the last 4 years? And they are worse off now in terms of social welfare and healthcare costs relative to the elderly?

The missing tens of millions almost ALL came from sub-35 cohorts. That is to say - the young workers they would like to rely on to help ease at least somewhat the demographic time bomb. This was absolutely horrific news from their standpoint - and you acting like it isn't relevant seems like deliberate obtuseness.
